Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo sales Forecast for 2010 - Let's discuss it

Link

Sales from the past fiscal year:

Wii hardware - 20.53m
Wii software - 191.81m
DS hardware - 27.11m
DS software - 151.59m

Forecast for this fiscal year ending in March 2011:

Wii hardware - 18m
Wii software - 165m
DS hardware - 30m
DS software - 150m

----------------------------------------------------\\------------------------------------\\-------------------------

Is it just me or DS hardware seems too high and Wii hardware too low? Why this?

How's DS gonna sell more, being a 6 year old system and on top of that, 3DS may come out later this year in Japan, killing DS sales.

How will Wii sales decline 2 million units? This year has a better line up than last year and also a new bundle for NA...

Perhaps the DS hardware includes 3DS? That's the only thing I can think of, otherwise it would be easy to assume a further ascent down to the 23-25 million region for this fiscal year. I think the Wii hardware is pretty much good, they adjusted their last fiscal projection heavily down mid-year and were within 2.5% margin of the new goal so I think they have a pretty clear grasp on the market right now. Despite the price cut last year and the tremendous NSMBWii wave, the Wii is still down yoy in Q1 this year (I think, I'm not quite sure as the numbers have bounced an awful lot up and down).

The DS numbers include 3DS, I believe.

I'm starting to believe the 3DS is a DS with 3D capabilities, not an entirely new handheld.

Which is fine by me, but will be a disappointment for lots of people.

The DS numbers include 3DS, and Nintendo may cut prices. Plus new Pokemon titles could boost sales in Japan.

The way I see it, 'old' DS model shipments will be 25m minimum, 28m max, with the remaining 2-5m being 3DS, depending on when/in what markets 3DS launches in this financial year.

Wii sales do seem to be low for me, but Nintendo are often conservative in their numbers. I personally see Wii sales being flat year over year, or even slightly up to around 21 million. Of course, there are numerous factors with effects that can't be anticipated yet. My prediction of Wii shipments of up to 21 million is based on current momentum generated by price cuts, NSMB Wii etc lasting till the September period (being augmented (particularly in North America) by Galaxy 2/Metroid releases), and the big HD hardware add ons/software line up for Q4 having little if any impact on Wii sales. I also believe Galaxy 2, Metroid, the new Wii series title, Zelda and Last Story in Japan to help maintain Wii momentum.

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the 3DS is their next generation handheld already. Just because they have bundled the DS and 3DS numbers together in this forecast doesn't mean it's a DS with 3D, it means that they want to hide something. My guess would be that they don't want to release numbers on the 3DS right now and give away the likely release window, whether it be this year or next.

do you have a link for that?  i've seen a lot of info floating around but most of it seems to be speculation and i guess i didn't see that confirmation.  i am hoping it is a new generation of handheld.  I thought about getting a DSi for a while but it just didn't get enough support to make it worth upgrading.  I really really really like 3D so i want the 3DS to get the fully force of a new console launch instead of a handful of 3D capable games.

Reggie said it, the news was also reported here on VGC.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Wii wont have a pricecut or big system seller in the late months then, it seems.

DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL will all get pricecuts towards the end of the year if those DS numbers don't include 3DS.

3DS may not even be releasing this year... Or did i miss a confirmation?
