Smash Brothers Brawl = Street Soccer/Table Soccer

Brawl, alongside with Dragonball and Naruto versus games aren't technical enough to be considered a legit fighting game. (Im a Naruto fanboy but I've to admit the game is junk)

Much like your first statement, I'd honestly like to see you even try to compete with tournament brawl players and act like its not a "legit" fighting game.  Look man the fighting genre is one of my favorite game genres and I play everything from input heavy to combo heavy fighters, there's a skill to each of them, just like there's a skill to brawlers like Smash Bros, many brawlers like DBZ and Naruto don't have as deep of systems as Brawl but people like my friend who convinced me to buy Naruto UNS showed me the tactics of that game as well, he can beat me with pretty much any character and has because he knows the battle system.

I really don't get the people trying to snub other sub genres just because they don't play them, it's all fighting games, but trying to crap on one genre cause it has a different take is pretty bad, it's kinda like the people that try to crap on CoD cause they love Halo... it's just different gameplay styles.

Just because its competitive or because it has a deep system, doesn't make it into a fighter. But call it a fighter if you like, you don't get my point how hard i try anyway. What i'm just trying to point out is: that calling this game a fighter is like calling Mario Kart a racing simulator. It has some elements of a fighter but not all and therefore it isn't a fighter . There really isn't a real genre for Smash bros, but its still most like an multi player beat em up and not a fighter, i don't care how deep the game is, Starcraft is deep. Is it a fighter?

LOL man this one really made me laugh, alright now you're trying to change the argument from the general genre title fighter and compare it to Mario Kart being called a subgenre of the general racing genre, LMAO that makes no logical sense cause sub-genre does not equel general title.

All fighting games are fighters, within the fighting genre there are a plethora of sub genres, you have your technical fighters, your arcade style fighters, you have your brawlers, etc you've been trying to say one sub-genre isn't a fighter even though it is, and trying to use Mario Kart, which is a racer under the sub genre of kart racer, claiming it's not another sub genre, being racing sim, meanings Smash Bros is not a fighter, that simply doesn't work and is a flawed argument.

The genre as a whole is called fighting games, the OP asked for the best fighting game this gen, this will include all subgenres of the fighting game genre including the brawler genre which is games like Naruto UNS, DBZ Tenkaichi/Burst Limit/Raging Blast, Super Smash Bros Brawl, they're all fighters, it's something you simply can not say is magically no longer in the genre cause you feel that way.

Let's see is there fighting game tournaments where only serious competition fighting games are used? Yes

What's it's name? EVO

Did EVO have a Super Smash Bros Brawl Tournament? Yes

Does EVO only have fighting game tournaments? Yes

Going through my list here logic dictates that Smash Bros is a fighter and professional fighting game tournaments would agree. Check mate?

Except fighting games is a sub genre of BEAT EM UPS. Brawl is a beat em up, but doesn't make it into the sub genre fighter, same as Mario Kart is a racer, but it doesn't make it into the sub genre driving simulator. But again i already told you that you just dont get it so im not gonna reply from now on.

As for evo... they dont even have an official tourament for Smash, even though its a bigger game than everything there except for Street Fighter 4. Now this might not be related to the fact that many fighting gamers (including myself) doesn't acknowledge it as a true fighter.

However, there always is inoffical touraments for Smash, even melee i think. But seriously though, does it matter? You can play almost any game in evo if you want, Brawl just happens to be a big game with many players. Again i didn't say it is a bad game, nor did i say you cant play it competitively, i just said its not a true fighter just like Mario Kart is not a driving simulator.

No... No it's not... Beat em Ups are a sub genre of action games which includes games like God of War, Brawl is nothing like a beat em up, really it's that simple... I really don't know where you got your ideas of what genre is which and what games classify as what but fighting games is its own genre.  You seem really confused and you should probably read up on game genres, which I already posted the proof from Wiki if you wanted to go back and read but man from this point it's sort of obvious either you're not listening or you simply don't know what genres are and so you're mixing them together and its caused some sort of confusion as to what you're classifying as fighting games.

EDIT (since I didn't even read the rest of your post after seeing that first line)

EVO had an official Brawl tournament in 2008 on the main stage, any tournaments on the main stage are official tournaments, simple.  But that also doesn't exclude other big pro gaming circuits like MLG also have Brawl tournaments, just because a group of fighting game snobs try to say its not a real fighter doesn't mean its not or its not included in the genre, if you want to side with a bunch of closed minded people be my guest.

I haven't played Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom yet so I'm going to go with Soul Calibur IV.

without a doubt SSBBrawl, but Tatsunoko vs Capcom and SSFIV aren't that far behind

Smash is a fighting game and always will be.

In fighting game there is a "life system" to where the more you get hit the closer you are to dying. Brawl/melee/ssb64 does that. It uses "%" instead of bars yet the rule is still the same.

In a fighting game there are combos. A combo is definted as 2 or more consecutive hits. Brawl/melee/ssb6 has that.

In a fighting game there must be some sort of "advanced techiques" and all 3 smash games have them. In fact, brawl has more advanced techs than any other fighter created. PIKACHU has over 100 just by himself.

Dont fighting games have "rounds" and isnt a round is pretty much where u restart a fight with full HP? All smash game shave that too. Smash's competitive rule set allows us 3 stocks. Once a stock is lost you reappear fully healed and your move-set full replinished. This can be seen as a new round.

If i recall correctly, fighting games have MATCHES and SETS right? Smash does do.

All the human created aspects of fighting games like "stage control" "camping" "turtling" "cross-ups" "1-hit-KO" blah blah blah is all in smash just like any other fighter.

Tier lists? We got em.

Character reduction over time? MvC2 has about 7 characters, SF4 had about 5, melee had about 5 and so does brawl.

The list goes on an on and on. The PLAYERS have made a game that was meant to be as a FREE-4-ALL with items falling from the sky into a 1vs1 or 2vs2 fighter with a competitive rule set that has worked for over 9 years now. Smash is a fighter wether you accept it or not. I request that you check out www.smashboards.com and just see what im talking about.

I'm stuck between Takken 6 and SSBB!!!
