life gauge in a bar form and rounds DOES NOT define a fighter. that has never been a rule. its just the way they have all been made. fighters can come in many shapes and forms. i just think u are butt hurt that more people on this thread support brawl than w/e fighter you like.

And how many of those actually own a 360 or a ps3 or at least have played enough hours at friend's house, so that they can say that they prefer brawl over tekken 6 or VF? I played Braw a few times, but not enough to know whether it's great or not, so I can't be certain (although my friends who own the game think it's awesome). It's only natural for wii owner to vote for Brawl. I think it would be more fair to ask ps3 and 360 owners which is the better fighting game between Tekken 6 and VF, since none of them is an exclusive (and we know fanboys tend to choose exclusive titles).

Killer Instinct

Saturday Night Slam Masters(anybody remember this badass game or am i too old?)

Mortal kombat 2

Starwars: masters(worst fighting game ive EVER played)

Virtua Fighter 2

SSB64

Melee

Brawl

Streetfighter 2 turbo

Killer instinct gold

Soul Calibur 2

Tekken tag

MvsC2

Cvs Snk2 :eo

I can keep on listing the fighters ive played in depth but whats the use?

I have played fighting games since i was a just a child in the SNES era. Ive had my fair share of fighter exp and i can GUARANTEE that brawl is top 2 best fighters of this Gen(unless mvc3 does amazing things) and you dont need to be a wii owner to accept this. In fact, i would even consider some games ive listed above better than current gen fights like soulcal 4 and tekken 6 and Doa4. No offense to anybody but tekken started to suck major ass after tekkan tag and solcal went to shit after 2. The only other TRULY good fighter this gen(imo of course) is SSF4.

Ok I accept that in your opinion brawl is one of the best fighting games, but since I haven't played it enough (although I do own a wii) how can I make such a claim? It seems to me that you do need to be owner to accept this. Also, the games that you listed are not from this generation (or am I wrong?). Have you played Street Fighter IV, Dead or Alive 4, Tekken 6 or VF more than 5 hours, in order to be certain that Brawl is better? Like I said, I've only played Brawl only a few hours, so it's unfair to compare it with Tekken 6.

My point with this whole rant was that, you can make brawl into a "fighter" but it isn't that at its very core, it is a multi player beat em up. You can also make a lot of games into a "fighter" if you really want, like GTA4, now its no where as fun as brawl. But i still made my point and therefore i refuse to call it a fighter.

Here's a way to end this!

From Wiki:

"Super Smash Bros., known in Japan as Nintendo All Star! Dairantō Smash Brothers (ニンテンドーオールスター!大乱闘スマッシュブラ ザーズ Nintendō Ōru Sutā! Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu?, "Dairantō" meaning "Great Melee"), is a fighting game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64."

A game where the point is to fight each other, test each others skill in both attack and defense, and the fact that there actually are mechanics to balance all characters.  SSB has always been a newer take on fighting games, it's quite possibly the most cusomizable fighter out there on consoles, you can have any number of rule sets, various ways of fighting each other, etc.  But the fact remains that its a fighting game, you have your rounds, you have your life bar, you have various ways of killing each other, there's a combo system, there's specials, and there's a whole meta-game that you have to learn to even be able to compete with tournament players so it must take some sort of skill and knowledge to do this.

Your argument would work better against something like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja series but even then Naruto is a fighter as well, there's not much anyone can do or say that changes fact...

You do know that smash bros is like the most unbalanced game ever right? Even games with infinite combos are more balanced, so your point is moot. Most tourament matches in melee are between like the same 5 characters or so almost nobody else gets picked. As for brawl, im not sure, but i know a guy that plays smash very competitively and he says that brawl is more unbalanced, but i don't really know.

Besides there is even a quote from Sakurai saying that he doesn't want the game to be competitive, so what was your point again? You can make it into a "fighter" but it isn't one at its very core its a beat em up. How many other fighters have you played which has items, random things like trips and changing environments? As for Naruto Ultimate Ninja or w/e, i've played it, if its the one for PS3. I guess you could call that a fighter since already calling brawl a fighter, imo neither is one but w/e.

Easy, Tekken 6
/Thread

lol, but seriously. I think Street Fighter is one of the most viciously overrated games in existence(then comes Mortal Kombat). The move sets are super limited, the combat is jittery and stoic and it has yet to bring it's graphical appeal to this generation(IV still doesn't look up to snuff to me).

And I have the opinion that a fighting game should always build on top of it's roster of characters and their ability, not constantly change them. Thats why I love Tekken, so many characters and fighting styles to choose from. It is loaded with far more content for your money then Street Fighter is, but SF gets all the hype due to it's nostalgic presence withing the gaming world. I also refuse to play games where the characters are not attractive. I simply cannot personify myself with playing with a troll looking character. Tekken has the best looking characters from any fighting series, only Guilty Gear and KOF comes close.

Uh it's a fighting game is the point and facts are simply facts no amount of twisting can change that, I was just trying to help you understand the fact that it's a fighting game with supporting evidence, if you want to throw that out it doesn't change a fact.  And the balance issues in Melee arose due to people glitching the game and using it as apart of the meta-game, brawl however took that out.  Some exploits can be done with a couple of characters in brawl, main one being Metaknight, but you still beat metaknight users with skill, and if it gets too bad they just ban him from tournaments.

But that all factors into Tiers and honestly very few fighting games don't have them. Street Fighter IV I'm pretty sure you'd agree that game is a fighting game, yes?  Well it has obvious tiers, you don't fight with Dan expecting to beat a skilled player that's using Akuma.

Tekken/Virtua Fighter/Street Fighter/KOF/Blaz Blue/Soul Calibur = World Soccer

Smash Brothers Brawl = Street Soccer/Table Soccer

Brawl, alongside with Dragonball and Naruto versus games aren't technical enough to be considered a legit fighting game. (Im a Naruto fanboy but I've to admit the game is junk)

Much like your first statement, I'd honestly like to see you even try to compete with tournament brawl players and act like its not a "legit" fighting game.  Look man the fighting genre is one of my favorite game genres and I play everything from input heavy to combo heavy fighters, there's a skill to each of them, just like there's a skill to brawlers like Smash Bros, many brawlers like DBZ and Naruto don't have as deep of systems as Brawl but people like my friend who convinced me to buy Naruto UNS showed me the tactics of that game as well, he can beat me with pretty much any character and has because he knows the battle system.

I really don't get the people trying to snub other sub genres just because they don't play them, it's all fighting games, but trying to crap on one genre cause it has a different take is pretty bad, it's kinda like the people that try to crap on CoD cause they love Halo... it's just different gameplay styles.

Soul Calibur IV is still my favorite fighter of this generation. The combination of weapons and 3D fighting never gets old. 2D fighters like SF4 are much more confining and boring to me. That said, SC4 underacheived. I still think the original SC on Dreamcast was the best one.

I was very disappointed to see that Tekken 7 is being developed-- I really wanted to see a Soul Calibur 5 first. Instead of using Yoda and Darth Vader, I would like to see characters like Kratos and Ryu from Ninja Gaiden placed into the game.

I didn't really enjoy Blazblue or SS4 this generation. Tekken 6 and Smash Bros are both great, but I haven't played them in depth.

Huh? What's SSIV, a SFIV typo? And how did they sabotage the game?
