Here's a way to end this! From Wiki: "Super Smash Bros., known in Japan as Nintendo All Star! Dairantō Smash Brothers (ニンテンドーオールスター!大乱闘スマッシュブラ ザーズ Nintendō Ōru Sutā! Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu, "Dairantō" meaning "Great Melee"), is a fighting game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64." A game where the point is to fight each other, test each others skill in both attack and defense, and the fact that there actually are mechanics to balance all characters. SSB has always been a newer take on fighting games, it's quite possibly the most cusomizable fighter out there on consoles, you can have any number of rule sets, various ways of fighting each other, etc. But the fact remains that its a fighting game, you have your rounds, you have your life bar, you have various ways of killing each other, there's a combo system, there's specials, and there's a whole meta-game that you have to learn to even be able to compete with tournament players so it must take some sort of skill and knowledge to do this. Your argument would work better against something like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja series but even then Naruto is a fighter as well, there's not much anyone can do or say that changes fact... |
You do know that smash bros is like the most unbalanced game ever right? Even games with infinite combos are more balanced, so your point is moot. Most tourament matches in melee are between like the same 5 characters or so almost nobody else gets picked. As for brawl, im not sure, but i know a guy that plays smash very competitively and he says that brawl is more unbalanced, but i don't really know.
Besides there is even a quote from Sakurai saying that he doesn't want the game to be competitive, so what was your point again? You can make it into a "fighter" but it isn't one at its very core its a beat em up. How many other fighters have you played which has items, random things like trips and changing environments? As for Naruto Ultimate Ninja or w/e, i've played it, if its the one for PS3. I guess you could call that a fighter since already calling brawl a fighter, imo neither is one but w/e.
