apple probably.

if activision made a console, would it have good sales.
activision making a console will be big, the cod franchise, and the bungie ip would be exclusive to their console. i'm sure all of the mw2 players will get the console. but it seems unlikely.

apple will release an console next gen. no controller it's all touch.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I don't think they're will be another console. I think if any company out there wanted to make a gaming console it would be Apple, with they're innovation and money, I think they can compete with Microsoft and Sony not sure about Nintendo though.

You never know though. Innovation is the reason why Nintendo is the Nintendo we see today so if Apple applies their innovation to a console, they could very well compete with Nintendo.

nope, Apple is not displaying an significant interest in Video Game console markets. It may seem like Apple has sights on VG, but in reality they are more expanding selling power to current users rather than build up a gaming community. iPhone, iTouch, iPad are all displaying that VG are last feature. These devices and it's VG expansion is more along the lines of having current iUsers not spend money on other devices. As it is I know people who have an iPhone + PSP/DS.

Secondly there is no significant move because Apple lacks the console tools and support. There OSX is currently the crappiest OS for games. They have taken no steps to improve there gaming options. Apple/Jobs isn't directing the future for Apple Gaming Console. We saw signs of Apple getting game developers. It ended up being some support for the portable machines.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Not in the near future
Enter in the home console market requires huge investiments, in terms of hardwere software tecnology and specialized personnel, I don't think that there's a company who is able to efford this right now, not to mention that Microsoft,Sony,Nintendo are all well known to the public and also they could use agressive commercial politics to push out the new entry competitor.
Only Apple maybe could maybe try to enter tin the market, but it would cost them a lot and also it would very unlikely for them to succed, it's more profitable for them to continue with their own business.
Maybe also an ipotetic merger beetween EA and Ubisoft or Activion whould be strong enogh, in terms of software offer, to make a new console, but I don't see the reason to do that, since they make more profit with multiplatform games.

I think apple might be eying an entry in to the home console market. They have been slowly building up their brand name and reputation in gaming with games for the itouch and ipad games. They have enough apple fanboys behind them to be successful in the console market just look at brisk ipad sales. Whatever apple releases seems to be in demand.

Even though it won't happen I hope sega comes back in to the console market and becomes successful again.

That's what I think as well. Apple has been trying to build up a reputation in the gaming industry and now you see EA supporting the iPad as well as iPod and iPhone games and slowly Capcom, Square Enix and others are releasing quality games in the App Store. It's definitely a possibility of Apple entering the Home COnsole market

People were complaining about how much the ps3 was when it launched just imagine how much apple is going to charge for a home console if they ever release one.

Can anyone say Sega Dreamcast 2?

if it where to happen? these are the companies that would do it.

EA
Activision (nobody would buy this one/why buy from the devil)
Apple
Dell (why not)
Alien Ware (powerful PC'S = Powerful cosoles)
Take two/Rockstar/2k (12m easy with gta)
Sega (not likely)

Tashiba

IBM

bungie would just go to another publisher so they can remain independent and in charge of there own destiney. or become a publisher themselves.

I think we would have seen one, had the big games this generation not been so successful. Reason being is most of these other companies that would be entering are more or less multimedia companies and this generation has shown big games (on all 3 platforms) have been the main reason growth has been occurring. If multimedia functions had won out this gen, then yea it would have been easy for the like to come in and then establish software later. Now the goal is to establish software first and then progress with other areas.

That makes it very difficult for multimedia companies to enter without much brand to back it. Guess some developers might eventually start striking deals with players like that, but most of the big developers are multi-platform for a reason.

I do expect contenders in the near future (next 10 years) but I'm not sure how successful they'll be given Sony, MS, and Nintendo have done very well in establishing themselves this generation.
