If multimedia functions had won out this gen, then yea it would have been easy for the like to come in and then establish software later. Now the goal is to establish software first and then progress with other areas. That makes it very difficult for multimedia companies to enter without much brand to back it. Guess some developers might eventually start striking deals with players like that, but most of the big developers are multi-platform for a reason. I do expect contenders in the near future (next 10 years) but I'm not sure how successful they'll be given Sony, MS, and Nintendo have done very well in establishing themselves this generation. |
