"why did FFXIII suck?" becouse it wasnt that good

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

I have played around 20 hours of it. I think its ok, nowhere near as good as FF13 (which is my first Final Fantasy). Its really different from it, the story is pretty boring, the battle system is ok, there is lots to do which is good.

Aftr doing lots of research I summarized in pargrph below:

It stems from Squenix dumbing down Yasumi Matsuno's dark fantasy, realistic medieval world. Final Fantasy Tactics (although the ending turned into generic Final Fantasy KILL GOD! drivel) and Vagrant Story were masterpieces in story telling and didn't fall under the trap of the average JRPG where it must star a plucky teenager who fights against fallen deities while discovering the meaning of friendship or whatever. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance wasn't meant to be canon but Squenix realized the sudden appeal and monetary grab bag of a colorful world full of lizard-men and cat-girls and immediately set about to raping Matsuno's universe.

The biggest crime of Final Fantasy XII is Squenix's meddling. They wanted to remove Basch and Ashe as main characters and add Vaan and Penelo because Japanese gamers apparently don't like anyone who's older than 20 in the lead role. Matsuno said "You know what? Fuck you guys!" and left the company. When questioned he stated that he was "annoyed" by Squenix, their meddling, and the way the game was being handled. Indeed the game's biggest delay was because, while 3/4 finished, they had to add in two new characters to please the shitty test audiences.

What could have been a gripping story in the same vein as Tactics and Vagrant story was ruined by corporate meddling. The end result felt incredibly childish. Faint glimmers of hope poked through but ultimately the game has a terrible story to gameplay ratio. You'll receive this massive chunk of exposition followed by 20 hours of walking through huge fields filled with a gauntlet of monsters. Every area feels like a massive filler and the game could have been completely cut in half and still have the story remain intact.

_____

it is corprate meddling tht killed its potential. companies shud let game makers do wht they wnt to do, not force them to do sumthing they dnt want to do like wht hppnd with Infinity Ward.

Your argument falls apart on the grounds of FFT's main cast being all young teenagers. Where is your research anyway? What sources did you use?  The story of FF12 wasn't childish at all, but your rant certainly is.

I liked FF12, but felt that the world was a little sparse in comparison to what it would have been had Matsuno been on the project to populate it further.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

i dont think this game is as bad as everyone says, yes the battle system is auto but i dont see a lots more problems, i did got bored, but the game is not the as bad as people say.

No, it's not auto. You can turn off the gambits.

Seriously, as anyone, other than me, actually tried to play the game without gambits? >_>

Sure we could but then the battles were so damn long and boring(even more boring then with gambits on), hell playing FFXII without gambits made the battlesystem of WKC look like something from F-Zero.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

I do agree that Vaan is a HORRIBLE main character. But XII is a VERY VERY VERY good under rated game by many.

5th best FF game, was 4th but XIII pushed it down. and IX out of my top 5 :D

Really now? The action bar on WKC takes up a whole 5 seconds to fill. Even with a neglegible amount of Speed in any character on FFXII, the action bar took less than 2 seconds to fill.

What you just claimed makes no sense whatsoever. Most boss battles on WKC take longer than almost all boss battles on FFXII, heck even giant monsters in WKC took longer, especially if you didn't had the Knight with you.

Even so, that doesn't take from the fact that people claiming that FFXII was easy and automatic because of the gambits are completely wrong. You can switch off the gambits in any circumstance, and that makes for a bigger challenge and much more control. That's what i'm talking about.

I want to see some of those people who claim it is easy fight the super bosses. They can have all the gambits they want, they'll still get their asses kicked and DIE.

I just want someone to rise up to the challenge of fighting Omega, without using Gambits, and without using the Decoy/Reverse strategy XD Oh, and no Megalixirs would be good to, but that's pushing it, I guess

It didn't suck as such. More a case of a game with unfulfilled potential. I really felt it could have done so much more with the story than the final outcome. Enjoyed it though.
