it's a total myth that you need a high end rig to get into PC games the library of games even a laptop like you have can play a large number of games even if you may need to run them on low settings etc. I do recommend getting an actual mouse if you don't have one.

as for games, orange box should be good value, mount & blade: warband, one of Spiderweb software's games (if you like turn based RPGs they offer large demos so you can try them out), Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, Dragon Age thats all I can think of off the top of my head. use System requirements lab as has been linked and get steam and check out www.gog.com.

if you list the genres you are interested in it would be easier to recommend games for you

Counter Strike doesn't have low details option and can be run on Pentium 233 and 48 mb ram with 3D graphic card that does support either Direct3D or OpenGL. Even Source requires only 1.2 Ghz with 256ram and 6 year old gfx card.

@OP You can play pretty much every game, I have similar desktop and I can play most games on mid-high details.

If you wanted to play newer games, you'd need a new graphics card. Maybe a 5670 or 9800GT.

I'm alright with older games - besides, I have no idea how to insert a new graphics card into my laptop xD

Ah. Didn't see it was a laptop. It's either very hard or impossible to replace it, so you're doing the best you could.
