Forums - Nintendo - Why these hardcore games didn't sell.

Why did The Conduit and No More Heroes get sequels then? Didn't Sega say they wern't upset about Madworld's sales? Didn't Platinum Games show interest in making a Madworld sequel? Hasn't Red Steel 2 not been out long enough to say whether or not its a flop? Isn't Silent Hill on route to selling just as good as any other game in the series?

Selling good doesn't mean selling 10 million for every game.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

madworld and the conduit both sold better than they deserved.

SH: shattered memories is selling on par, if not a little better, with the last HD SH, so no need to make excuses

HOTD: Overkill, sold really well, and it's still selling, in onother year could pass 1 milion

same far Darkside, i'm sure in a year would be over 750k, and it will reach 1 million sooner or later.

NMH1 is the most successful GHM and Suda51 game ever and it's not a bomb by any means.

this leaves us with:

Dead Space Extraction --> People were pissed off by the "guided experience" treatment. launched a month before RE: Darkside Chronicles and in the same year of HOTD: Overkill so people had more than enought to play in that genre. Fans of the IP are on the HD consoles.

No MOre Heroes 2 --> I can't explain this one, since i haven't played it... i tought the fact te first one had a cult following should have stimulated good word of mouth, and since it got really good reviews i espected to sell better than first... i can only explain to myself with piracy, and people's disinterest in wii's third party core games. also it lunched the same day of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

Red Steel 2 --> it's a good sequel of a really bad game. i'm betting less than 20% of the peolpe who played the first game wants to play a sequel. No Multiplayer is a big turn off.

Cursed Mountain --> is from an unknown developer, and from a publisher that makes mostly shovelware, bad distribuition, no promotion. unappealing title and cover

frame rate dips is a reason why a game didnt sell?

get real, these reasons are silly, the reason these games didn't light up the sales charts (some sold decently) is advertising, sales are ALL about advertising, how can you sell a product to people who don't know about it? Modern Warfare 2, Wii Sports, Halo all were advertised with multi-million dollar ad campaigns and that generated hype and sales.

Quality does not equal sales, the games you mentioned are all great games with great reviews and yet they didn't sell, why? Advertising I tell ya.

@ Mortono: wrong

Did it stand as the only reason? No but it is a reason and there are people who hate that problem

I said promotion was one of  my reasons captain obivous

Quality does equal sales. You need people to talk about how good something is.

I don't think any amount of commercial makes the difference between 200K and 2M sales...

_Most of these games are not hard core, they just are niche games, it was delusional to think they'd sell well.

_The rail shooters may suffer from saturation. (I personally waited that price hit 11£ for REDC)

_Conduit was badly executed and definitely not close to standard shooter offering.

_RS2 is the only one I would have seen sell better as it's more widely appealing...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I like this thread is more 'what I don't like about _____' than 'why _____ sold poorly.'

I think oh too often a developer thinks of one way to use the Wii remote in an interesting fashion and pretty much uses it as a crutch to justify releasing a game. If you'll look at the big sellers on Wii, while most are backed by a large name/reputation, they have variety. Sure they may be casual games in the sense they're software you won't be playing for more than 15 or so minutes a session but they're not one-trick ponies. Look at Madworld, you beat up guys, you drive them into walls, spikes, etc., you fight a outlandish boss, rinse and repeat. Then you have Wii Sports Resort where you may be playing Table Tennis in one session, then playing Frisbee Golf in another.

Eh, my opinion.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Yeah but still sold bad,

I'm not making excuses. I just said the reason why it didn't sell well for a game

selling very  but House 2+3 sold much better than it.

Darkside failed for a RE title and I stated the reasons (the reason aren't even mine by the way)

That is true but it didn't sell well for a game.

You don't get do you? I can't stand you people who bother to get it. The reasons came from other games complain about those certain things in the game. THey aren't my reason. I love Madworld, Silent Hill, no more heroes 1+2, Cursed Mountain, and the conduit. I 'm freaking point out that those bad things do hurt the game's image.

Really negative feedback hurts a game

Yes it does look at Monster Hunter 3.

They are hardcore. Yes they are odd but a decide number of games are odd.

rail shooters are just boring mostly. the only rail shooter I actually loved was Star FOx 64 and Sin and Punishment

That is pretty much what I said about the conduit

it maybe more appealing than some games but carries the same name as first which sucked. Same name can hurt it

well Darkside Chronicles and Overkill didn't sell because lets face it, Railshooters hasn't got a huge fanbase

Yes but Star Fox 64 has a good fanbase. The only reason why is because it is very fun to play.

I bought MadWorld and was extremely disappointed. Just a terrible game in my opinion.
I bought Dead Space to hold me over until Sin and Punishment, which will hopefully hold me over until Star Fox. It failed to do that, played through it once, very little incentive to do so again.
I was never that interested in Conduit, or FPSs in general. That being said, I might pick up the second one for the split screen multiplayer, as that would fill a nice hole in my library.
I had to choose between NMH2 and TvC because of cash flow at the time. I chose NMH2; great game, wish it sold better.
I was hyped about Red Steel 2, but the more I read about it, the less and less interested I was. I might pick it up eventually, but not any time soon.
