Sony sued over Linux removal, Case documents surface

It was reported earlier in the month that gamers were looking to sue Sony for the removal of the PS3 function to add your own 'OS' to your PS3. This removal caused an uproar in the gaming community and gamers sought to use the power of the legal system to get even with Sony. That day has finally come. As of yesterday, a lawsuit was filed against Sony on this very issue and gamers are looking to sue Sony over the removal of the Linux and 'OS' feature.

Court files reveal that Sony will appear in court on August 15th and September 1st, 2010 to face the charges brought against them. In a seventeen page long case file, everything is carefully documented about the feature being touted as a key component of the PS3 and why it was unlawful to remove the feature from current PS3 units.

Sony hasn't issued a comment concerning this matter at this time.

Sony put a feature into a consumer product then removed it once purchased?!?!?!?!?!?

Would be like if apple sold you an iphone then decided to send out an update one day that removes text messaging from all phones.  Should they be aloud to do it cause its their product, with the main purpose of the product being to make phone calls?  O rite i forgot its sony we are talking about here, automatically all is forgiven around these parts.

You had the choice to update it or not. That will be the key argument from Sony. Sony can do whatever they want with the PSN.

yea the choice was go ahead and keep linux but dont expect to be able to do anything else with your ps3 until you install the update.....some choice there.  What they did pretty much equates to blackmail, "Give us back linux support or we are going to lock down other features of your ps3 until you do"

Doubt they will lose this one

What's up with all the lawsuits of late? DAmn
