Forums - Microsoft - Why doesn't my 360 turn completely off?

So for the past few days, maybe week, my 360 hasn't turned all the way off.  After I turn it off I can still hear it running as if it were finishing a download or something.  The lights are off but it's still generating heat.  I put my hand back behind and it's not hot enough to be concerned about, it just bothers me that it stays on and I can hear it when the TV is quiet so I unplugged it last night.

Is there some setting I accidently turned on to make it stay on like that?

Also I've noticed that about half the time I turn it on it doesn't auto-sign into my account and not quite sure why that is.

Have you tried physically hitting the power button instead of unplugging it? mine does this if I leave a controller plugged in or a DL is finishing, but if you tap the power button, is skuttles what it was doing and shuts down.

I believe it does this for heat reasons. If your 360 is too hot, the fans will keep going even after it's powered off in order to cool it down.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

But even after nearly a full day of no use?

Be careful trying to unplug it. It seems like it is gaining sentience.

Hmm, I know there's a setting where you can continue to download things after you turn the console on. That's happened to me before.

The fan will keep going until cooled down. If it keeps running after several minutes, the temperature gauge may be faulty - it think sit's hotter than it is?

No electronic equipment like consoles or computers or phone chargers or newer TV's are really "off" if they are still plugged in - especially if they have sleep modes. They draw power constantly.

I saw a bunch of products at CES this winter that are trying to change that - powerstrips that you can use that will block that slow passive energy drain and save a ton of power.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Because you turn it on, Twesterm.

I've never had this happen. The most I get is the fan running for like 20 seconds, which I assume it does to quick cool the system after you're done with it.

Best response so far.

Console Settings, Startup and Shutdown, Background Downloads, Disable if you want to check. I've never noticed her fan running after shutdown. Mine seems well-behaved but I have never plugged her with random foreign objects.
