i have never played a single metroid game ever, so can someone please fill me in. 

i pretty much want people to tell me every and any spoilers about the past games

Get Super Metroid on VC. It'll run you like $8 and it's the best Metroid.

The only thing storywise you need to know is that Samus is a bounty hunter. There are a few major "badguys" like the Space Pirates, who always revive Ridley. Mother Brain controls the space pirates defenses. Metroids like to suck the life out of whatever they can get a hold of.

I'm sure someone can tell you the details, but they don't really matter. Sorta like knowing all the backstory of Zelda doesn't matter for any new game.

Ridley (Big Space Dragon thing.) killed Samus' parents when she was young. Now they're not the best of friends.

Snape also killed Dumbledore.

You should just go back and play the games yourself. It won't take long and you'll be 100x more hyped for the game afterwards. Plus...they're some of the best games ever made.

You have 2 options. You can play them as they came out or in chronological order.

As they came out: Metroid II/Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission (Remake of Original Metroid)

Chronological Order: Zero Mission (Remake of Original Metroid)/Metroid II: Return of Samus/Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion

As it stands, Metroid: Other M is going to take place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. However, it is going to tie into pretty much all the games I mentioned above. You'll enjoy it a lot more if you go back and play all the games.

i would start from scratch so you know about the evil mother brain, the best start is the beginning, Metroid on nes.. you can download the emulator ... then play super metroid (best metroid ever btw)

the original Metroid is a masterpiece, you should look into it.
