Forums - Sony - Sony claim PS3 sales up 298%

Be very careful in how you read this.

It looks as though they are saying three things:

1) Sales increases from November 2 in comparison to pre November 2 (duh, holidays and price cut)

2) Sales for Black Friday were up 200% as compared to last Black Friday (well yeah, they have supply this Black Friday)

3) Playstation brand sales are of course going to be up with increased PS3 software and hardware sales from last year.

That should clear up any confusion from the very careful wording used in this piece of PR

Sounds about right - depending what numbers you pick to "base" them on. A 4x multiplier (300% increase) from around 25k/week --> 100k/week.

Considering the Ps3 was in near death supply last year at this time, and they hadnt even launched in Europe, they should easily have beaten last year.

this is only in america

Wow if this is how much PS3 went up then I can't wait to see how much 360 and Wii go up haha.

According to ioi "From soriku" out of all the consoles the PS3 had the largest boost in sales during the week.

That's the kind of number spinning I've come to expect from Sony. Comparing sales to a year ago when they launched with a record low amount of stock? Yeah, I imagine they're doing a lot better now.

Yes, TheSource but the article clearly says

" And since November 2, when the new 40GB SKU and the reduced in price ($499) 80 GB model both were available, Sony said PS3 hardware sales are up 298 percent."

There is no way anyone can PR spin that comment.

Thanks for the translation. I wasn't even gonna click on the link due to Sony's PR Spinning.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

I'm skeptical to believe that this is a great achievement, but at least it means that some people bought the new SKU... That's about all I'm getting out of it. I'm not going to call any of these Sony "success stories" an actual success story until I know that sales went up without a price drop, and without a new model being introduced.

This is well within holiday norms. I'd bet when the tally comes in, Nov will be very close to 250% of Oct sales, which would be exactly inline with historical NPD data. Of course the Sony hype machine will never offer this information.

Really? How many PS3s, regardless of SKU, were available on last Black Friday? THAT'S the spin we mean.
