You are missing the point. Every month for 15-years, PS3 advocates are going to be able to say, "Beat you again!"
So American hardware numbers are in. PS3 sold 174k (79k or 83.5% up), X360 254k (91k or 55.5% up). The previous week numbers' seem to be changed also. It's not exacly corresponding with what ioi said. The bigger increase happened to Wii: 225k or 88.5%. Both portable systems (PSP and DS) sales more than doubled with absolute growth for PSP more than 100k and more than 200k for DS.
So it looks like PS3 won't be able to win this week. Without Japan its 326k vs 277k for Xbox. So it's 49k difference. Although in the previous week PS3 won with Xbox by 50k in Japan the margin should be smaller this time, even with Winning Eleven help.
@leo-j
for the last 2 weeks when the data is out Ps3 was ALWAYS behind the 360
but when the week afters data was updated it always went ahead due to the updating going on..
so even if Ps3 falls short this week
technically it could be ahead

WII - 18.3 Million
Xbox 360 - 15 Million
Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million
@darth
I dunno, but ps3 needs to sell more than this if they hope to make it to 2nd place. 10k a week is useless.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"
Looks like the whole PS3>X360 sales were very, very short lived.
Unless Sony can pull out 75,000+ units ahead in Japan this week....Not gonna be a three-peat.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
And what if there is another adjustment this week by ioi for the american numbers like last week for the PS3? And honestly 174k in NA isn't bad by any means. Had it been less then 100k then yea, you could say that the PS3 is flopping. WW, it's not that far off pace of the 360 once the JP numbers come in. (Could even be slightly ahead for all we know if sony has +74k on the 360 there.)

Guys, don't get too worked up about a few 1000s of difference. It's all within expected statistical error. Be content that the 360 and the PS3 are selling about the same lately, that's all we can conclude from the data.
