Forums - Gaming - I can't get Final Fantasy VI (III) to work on my SNES T_T

So my long anticipated copy of Final Fantasy VI finally arrived in my mailbox today.

As usaual with new games, I read the entire manual before playing to tease myself. What a manual by the way, the SNES manuals are awesome, especially this one.

Then I tried to get the game to work with my import adapter. I turned on the SNES, and .... nothing, nada, zero. Just a black screen.

What went wrong? I have gotten Japanese games to work with the adapter, even the japanese version of Chrono trigger (Wich I can't play bacause I can't read japanese.) FFVI is the american version, but the adapter is supposed to work with games from any region.

Is this one of those games where square put one of those damn thingies that counts the Hertz and won't start if it's the wrong region?

Does anyone know how I can get it to start?

EDIT: I live in Europe if that wasn't made clear by the text.

Could be a broken game?

The only thing I remember (and I am not sure about it) is that FF III would freeze during the ending with pretty much all adaptors, so it's likely that some types can't run the game at all.

that's not the problem that I'm having with FFIII. My copy won't even start.

But does that mean that I can run the game if I have another converter?

Have you played it using an import adapter on a PAL machine and in that case, what adapter did you use?

Ok!

I'm from Europe too and played this game all the time using several adapters. This game has some issues however, like having a black item screen when you're on the field, a certain scene that sometimes causes the game to crash since the screen (because of the 50hz) can't keep up with the music and the ending always crashes at a certain point. Besides those things the game is nicely playable.

I presume you used this adapter before to play other NTSC games? The point with Final Fantasy III is that it needs some patience to load in an adapter. When it loads you get a black/grey screen first, wait for about 3 seconds and the title screen appears. Although, sometimes it doesn't work. In that case just reinsert the adapter and the game again.

I also found out that the game only tends to work with certain PAL games. I don't really recall which PAL games I used, but I think it was Super Mario World or Super Mario Allstars. Anyway, toy around with those games as well. And be warned, the savefiles of your PAL games could get messed up (or erased) when you use them in an adapter!

Let me know if this worked for you!

Thanks for the help.

I tried using different game cartridges, among those Super Mario World.

The other cartridges I tried was Street Fighter II, Zelda Allttp, and Killer Instinct.

Nothing works.

I've only used my adapter on Japanese games before, and it had worked well. Final Fantasy V worked and Chrono trigger. It sais that the adapter should work on American games though.

What do you think I should do. Return the game to the seller, or get a new adapter?

Your only solution is to import an American SNES, I believe.

I even tried it with the Super Game Boy.

Nothing works.

Should I get a new converter or try and return the game and get my money back?

Hmm,

Since you've never tried another NTSC game with this adapter it's hard to determine if it's the game or your adapter screwing up. I would try to buy another adapter since they are pretty cheap (max 10 euros) and if it doesn't work you could always sell it again and return the game afterwards. Doesn't any of your friends have another adapter? You really don't need an American SNES for this game, it works fine with most adapters!

Let me know if the other adapter works!
