damn i want to get in the beta so badly
Twesterm... What is your account? We must do battle. I got a beta also. ;) PM it to me. I would love to give it ago with you. Don't worry I am not that great either. Only a few wins.
I hate when people rush. Because I like to enjoy the game and build more than just the basic units. I have fought some guys who have like 20 zerglings while I have about 5 or 6 zealots.(I'm a DT rush kind of guy. I specialize in that, can't do much else as of right now)
I mean I know how to mass produce. I end up having 5-10 warp portals. I save up my resources and I will make 20-30 DT in about 5 minutes of time. But my problem is defense up until that point.
www.teamliquid.net
Great Starcraft site. Definately worth checking out. It has tons of SCII videos, a great community with many skilled players, and the allmighy liquipedia where you can read about all of the established build orders.
I think you should do like this.
Never forget the two things that was mentioned earlier in the thread. Keep scouting your enemy. If you don't know what he is doing, you're dead. And never stop making workers, otherwise you will have a bad economy and get steamrolled.
When you have grasped those two things, you should read up on a standard terran build order that works in every matchup. Practice that build order until you can do it with your eyes closed.
When you know your build order perfectly (this may take anything from hours to months depending on your skills.) (It took me months to be able to finally nail SC1 builds when I was a SC1 noob. ) Then you should start reading the teamliquid SCII strategy forum and start experimenting with different tactics if you feel like it.
Micromanagement and macromanagement are equally important, but macro is definaltely what decides games at a lower level so I wouldn't try to micro very much if I were you. Put your energy into getting a better economy that your opponent and getting more units than him instead.
Don't forget to watch replays that you lose and try to reflect on what you could have done to win the game.
Never wait for anything to happen. Do things constantly. Send out an early worker to scout your enemy. If you really want good practice, you should try to keep your worker alive while building up your base without messing up your build order. It's hard but it will give you better multi-tasking long term.
When looking up build orders, don't listen to descriptions like make X units and you will pwn his Y units.
This is how you describe a build order!
9/10 Pylon
13/18 Gateway
15/18 Pylon
16/18 Cybernetics Core.
17/26 Zealot
The fact that you are constantly building workers is taken for granted in build order descriptions.
There you go. I hope it helped.
I LOVE ICELAND!

...I have no idea what those numbers means. >_>

I believe that means this
First number = current unit count, second number means maximum unit count.
I personally build two pylons after I have 10 workers. Then I will work on a similar pattern as this. Just the first few moves are different. I find the way I do it is better in the long run, this could be better for quick matches.(Which I hate.>.>)
I kicked ass at the original but this Beta is murderizing me. It's really embarrassing.

First number is population count, and second is population cap as you said.
As for your strategy. If you wait to full population without building a pylon, you will have to wait until you get the pylons before you can build workers again, and if the guy you're playing against has a proper build order, he will keep building workers and get an economical advantage over you. And he could kill you early in the game.
Even if you like taking the battles into late game, I reccommend you to build your pylon at 9 population, because that way you will never be interrupted in building workers and thus will have a good economy in the beginning. And it will help you get sentries out quicker to wall off your ramp with force field ;).
I LOVE ICELAND!

oh, and save your chrono boost until the first pylon finishes
I LOVE ICELAND!

Heres the thing, I build two pylons at once, and with the boost. I am able to get up in workers very quickly. During the time the pylon builds I get a tad ahead in resources. That allows me to pop out two pylons at once. And still be able to pop out 3-5 workers quickly after. So when I make my warpgate I am 3 or so workers ahead. I have beaten people who use that build order. The exact start isn't always the only important factor.
