First number is population count, and second is population cap as you said. As for your strategy. If you wait to full population without building a pylon, you will have to wait until you get the pylons before you can build workers again, and if the guy you're playing against has a proper build order, he will keep building workers and get an economical advantage over you. And he could kill you early in the game. Even if you like taking the battles into late game, I reccommend you to build your pylon at 9 population, because that way you will never be interrupted in building workers and thus will have a good economy in the beginning. And it will help you get sentries out quicker to wall off your ramp with force field ;). |
Heres the thing, I build two pylons at once, and with the boost. I am able to get up in workers very quickly. During the time the pylon builds I get a tad ahead in resources. That allows me to pop out two pylons at once. And still be able to pop out 3-5 workers quickly after. So when I make my warpgate I am 3 or so workers ahead. I have beaten people who use that build order. The exact start isn't always the only important factor.
