The UK 2010 Election Thread- Who will/would get your vote?

Conservative - David Cameron 19 32.20%

Labour - Gordon Brown 11 18.64%

Liberal Democrats - Nick Clegg 22 37.29%

Other Party (Green/UKIP/Etc) 5 8.47%

Undecided 2 3.39%

Total:59

I think Cameron won that debate quite safely. Clegg did well (again), though not nearly as well as last time. Brown was a complete train wreck. Again. He seemed to follow the tried and tested (and failed) formula of:

a) Pretend you're going to do things which you're clearly not
b) Attack one of the opposing parties
c) Smile like somebody is pointing a revolver at the back of your head.

It was partially a silly idea, but with the semi-serious message that we need to change how our politics works because the adversarial, combative method at the moment is very public school boy and immature; it leaves the public in ignorance and elections just play on that ignorance. I would like to see much more public discussion on issues and more education and cooperation basically... it's almost like a game for power at the moment, even though many of them probably want to be public servants, something else seems to be getting in the way... my main issue is that the politicians are limited by global banking and corporations in making national change, though we use the excuse that it is the EU that is the problem... rather than the limitations imposed by global capital.

That's my position, I guess.

Ps Scorpio Rising is excellent!!

thats the only song of theres that I know, largely as the vocals are by Liam Gallagher, lol, im a big Oasis fan.

I agree there should be more discussion of issues and education, im hopefull that a hung parliament might produce at least some of that.

im not quite sure what you mean by global capital, thats basically money and what not right?

I'm beginning to lose faith in the British people here.

Yes, Clegg spoke very well. Fluently and classily, as usual. But after he harped on about getting rid of nuclear weapons, got owned by Cameron, harped on about "regional immigration", got owned by Cameron again, was in a massive donation scandal, and was even attacked by BROWN, people are still saying he won that debate?

atmosphere and arena werent as good tonight, probably my anti-Bristol bias showing though, hehe.

There tends to be a bit more bias on leftwing stuff then rightwing though... in the USA anyway.  Stuff like Fox news is more popular then MSNBC because really leftwing people tend to watch extreme right wing shows just to see what they say next and make fun of it.

While republicans are less likely to even want to listen to really bad and stupid leftwing comments.

It's basically the difference between your friends who like to watch bad movies BECAUSE they are so unbelievable bad... and your friends who  can't understand why you'd waste 2 hours of your life watching a bad movie, that you know is going to be bad.  So more leftwing people are likely to vote in a conservative poll then vice versa.

Edit: huh, wrong thing to quote you on... weird.

im not quite sure what you mean about more bias, all the UK papers are pretty bad on bias, heck, even the ones I read, but at least there bias is similar to mine, lol.

In the polls... re-read my post.

Afterall your biggest read newspaper is a very conservative newspaper right?  That's because Liberals like to read Conservative stuff just to see what they write.  This means they are more likely to participate in conservative polls then conservatives are in liberal polls.

So the conservative polls are usually going to be close on the mark.

So what I learned tonight.

Reconfirmed hatred for Ann Leslie and William Hague (during Question Time)

Clegg is still a force to be reckoned with and it will be interesting to see if his popularity will translate into votes for the Liberals.

All Gordon can do right now is not fail too horribly - he did better tonight than he did last week.

Cameron was a little more impressive tonight in performance at least, but ultimately I feel he will be another William Hague.

But after he harped on about getting rid of nuclear weapons

Perhaps some people think a nuclear deterrent will be ineffective against the current threats we face

harped on about "regional immigration", got owned by Cameron again

Maybe some people think the Lib Dems have a better immigration policy. I don't understand how people think the Tory idea of a cap is a good idea.

was in a massive donation scandal

Haven't they all been?

and was even attacked by BROWN, people are still saying he won that debate?

Doesn't mean anything, they all had a go at each other numerous times.

It's pretty easy for any of us on here to pull apart which ever leader we want as we already have our own opinions (not based purely on 90 minutes tv) and obviously are sticking to them as any of us who have looked at the manifestos are not learning anything new in these debates.

oh, I get you, and yes, sadly, the Sun is the most read paper, its also tabloid drivel and very right wing, I avoid the thing like it were the black death.

well, personally, I never read the right wing media, too much drivel for me to handle without wanting to hit things.

Only just now?

They re-elected Blair remember....

There are towns in the north near me, where if you dressed a donkey in a red rosette it would still win.  In fact they often do.

Its a disgrace.  I really wish we could have some kind of general knowledge assessment prior to being allowed to vote...   lol.

Exactly the same thing happens in the south except the donkeys are blue.
