The UK 2010 Election Thread- Who will/would get your vote?

Conservative - David Cameron 19 32.20%

Labour - Gordon Brown 11 18.64%

Liberal Democrats - Nick Clegg 22 37.29%

Other Party (Green/UKIP/Etc) 5 8.47%

Undecided 2 3.39%

Total:59

It would be nice to see how the members of our site favour the different parties. Looking at Stickball's thread, the site does seem to lean left on both scales, and in an earlier poll, Obama beat McCain quite safely.

A little bit of information about each of the parties can be found on each of their websites:

Conservative Party (Tories)

Labour Party

Liberal Democrats

Green Party

United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP)

Do tell whom you chose, and why.

I am personally a supporter of the Conservative Party. I think the country needs a good dose of capitalism to counteract 13 years of Gordon Brown (as Chancellor, and later as Prime Minister). They seem to be truly committed to changing politics, and the country in general, without being anarchistic about it. I generally agree with their policies, except on Europe, where I feel they're being a little antagonistic- "independence" from Europe sounds fantastic, on paper, but it's not that easy, and we need allies in this harsh world.

For the sake of foreigners and people who are out of the loop a little, the Labour Party has been in power since 1997, under first Tony Blair and then Gordon Brown, and the Conservative Party is currently winning in the polls, with Labour a few percent behind and Liberal Democrats ranging from significantly behind Labour to slightly ahead of the Conservatives.

I'll predict now that the Liberal Democrats will win this poll, based on my observations, but we'll have to wait and see.

im probably gonna vote Lib Dem, the Green party are closer to my own personal views, but I like the idea of a co-allition government as a realistic outcome from the election, I think it would be good to have the partys work together more, that way more peoples input gets heard and its more democratic, the Lib Dems also have good social policy and some economic views that I like too, though that is my main differences with them, they either go nowhere near far enough for me or dont take my position at all.

Conservative.

There, I replied. I get a cookie now?

The Conservatives let you keep your cookie, then give you some cookie crumbs out of their pocket.

Labour gives half of your cookie to homeless people.

The Lib Dems take your cookie, crush it into little pieces and throw it out of a window, and buy you a muffin instead.

The Green Party recycles your cookie.

UKIP tells you to leave your cookie, because it's controlling you.

The BNP tells the cookie to go back to Cookieland.

Nice thread.

Conservative Party/UKIP

I disagree with people who could work but choose not to. I'm impressed with the initiatives to tackle these benefit thieves. Refusing to work and continuing to want to "leech" off the government results in being penalised is a brilliant idea. Saving money and putting these people back into work. In addition, their policies on immigration also appeal to me. As everyone knows, the population is spiraling out of control and a set amount of immigrants flowing in allows us to control and handle the situation. They are also the only party which has clearly outlined that we need to cut the police using half their time filling out sheets and want to put them out on the streets. Although this will result in less police overall, it will mean they can apply their efforts on the streets catching criminals.

I am completely against the idea of a hung parliament and, as history shows, it never works. If a single party gets in (whoever it may be) they would be able to concentrate on giving the British people what they deserve. Two parties would have conflicting views leading to slower decision making and indecisiveness leading to a failing government.

On the Europe issue, I can clearly see the benefits. However, the downsides are astronomical. We have to pull our own weight and (it seems many other countries) As we spend 45 million £££ a day into something which doesn't guarantee us a fair deal.

I think Labour have failed the British people over the last 13 years and would continue to do so. The Lib Dems want to open the floodgates (yes even further than Labour) and grant all illegal immigrants right to stay in the country. On top of that, they want to join the Euro which is again showing us that they want to demolish what is England and fully commit to the cash burners in Brussels.

FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I DONT AGREE WITH ANY OF THE VIEWS OF THIS PARTY. I JUST THINK IT IS "RIGHT" TO INCLUDE THEM AS THEY ARE A POLITICAL PARTY WITHIN THE UK.

I would probably vote Liberal Democrats. I feel like the Authortarian levels of Britain are at a scary high level.

I mean stuff we complain about in the patriot act is stuff that happens in the UK all the time.

Conservative is a close second though based on the "Key issues" i've read between the two so far. I'll keep you up to date on my "non" vote.

Also, what's up with the health care saying "It's for the people who need it not who can pay."?

I mean, you guys have universal healthcare. Is there some rampant discrimination against the poor? I mean, I know if your poor your MUCH more likely to die of random diseases in the UK but I thought that was just due to the fact that the poor usually have a worse lifestyle.

hmm?

I think the NHS should always be a priority for the goverment, all the main parties support it.

They are saying it in a way that makes it sound like NHS discriminates against the poor.  Both Conservative and Liberal Democrats say "Healthcare should be about who needs it not who could pay."

This would be analgous to someone saying "Black people should be allowed to vote" in the US.  Black people already can vote... and have been able to for a while... why are you bringing this up?  Are there black people who can't vote?"

If I was a British citizen I'd vote for the BNP. I love the UK.

oic, thats an interesting point, I never noticed it before actually.

so far as I know, none of them think you should have to pay.

it does seem odd language to use though, you are right.
