I wonder if they ask any question like "Do you know what 3DS is?" or "Have heard about recently-announced Nintendo 3DS before?".

well considering "Out of the 1,059 polled, 42.1 percent stated that they own either a Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi or a DSi XL — or any combination of them." 702 individuals answered the 3DS question...

I'm not sure how the two numbers were related. It doesn't mean the 702 individuals who answered 3DS question know about the new hardwware or own a model of DS. The 702 individuals can not be a subset of the 42.1% DS owners since its larger than that.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

well I was agreeing with you while answering the other guys question lol obviously my post doesn't come across that way but anyway...

obviously there isn't a direct overlap but we can assume that there is some overlap in the numbers I was listing the numbers as there is probably at least some people that were polled that weren't interested in the DS enough to buy one, so the number of people that were interested in or planning to buy a 3DS is even more impressive.

They may need to show the 3ds first.

Also I havent seen anything about it since they said it was coming.

The Nintendo DS did not really start selling amazingly well until Nintendo released the DS Lite and games like Nintendogs, Brain training and whatnot. Few people become really interested in a product until they have a reason to be interested; and with how little is known about the 3DS only people who really want 3D gaming would be particularly interested at this point.

Only 8%, huh? Well, that's what you get when you cut a system in its prime off at the knees in favor of something that brings nothing genuinely new to gaming. I'd hoped Nintendo would have learned from the failure of the Gamecube and success of both the DS and Wii, but evidently they need another round of failure to innovate bringing failure to succeed before that happens.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Why would people commit to buying something they probably know nothing about?

If you asked me now if I would buy a 3DS I would say no, and I consider myself relatively well informed when it comes to gaming. For me there just isn't enough information about the 3DS to commit to a purchase, yet.

Ask me post E3 after I've have the opportunity to see some games and whether the machine has the chance to fulfill the potential I think it has and my answer might be quite different.

Why? Even 8% is great by now. And i believe we will see a Ps2/Ps3 like scenario, DS/3DS will convive for long time at the market, Ds will probably outsell 3DS in the first year but than 3DS sales are going to skyrocket and DS will get smaller every year.

i dont think the 3ds will ever realy become a big hit. its too much like the ds (from the information we know). its like nintendo said that releaseing a new wii with just hd added wouldnt be worth it. i think its same thing. just 3d isnt enough
