Forums - Nintendo - Netflix on the Wii: My impressions

Pros: easy and intuitive. You can update your queue with the Wii Browser. No bonus charges beside the cost of Netflix. HUGE selection of new and old movies, TV shows, and documentaries. Very good user interface.

Cons: Standard definition quality. No "frills". Long loading time for movies (but tolerable). Wii can't play disc based movies (half of the Netflix experience).

What is your connection speed? My movies load in 10 to 20 seconds. Sometimes less.

As for picture quality, it looks absolutely great. I give a slight edge to my cable, but only slight. Keep in mind I'm watching on a SD TV.

I actually don't know.  I play online games without the slightest hitch and my 360 runs Netflix pretty quickly.  Maybe it's because the Wii is Wi-Fi and my other consoles are wired?  I was downloading videos/demos from the PSN and 360 at the time, too.  That may have hurt things.  I'll try it again this morning.

Anybody know what Netflix uses to locate your location and determine eligibility? Does it use IP detection? I am not physically located in the US, but I have available to me:
- a US address (which I can use both to receive the disc and for registration purposes)
- a US credit card
- a US Wii

- If initial registration is done through the PC, I even have available to me  a US server that will make it seem i am in the US (this won't work for my Wii connection though).

BUT I am very much totally outside of the US. Could I "fool" Netflix to let me use it?

I think you'll be fine.

I can't give you a comparison, but the PS3 version is pretty good..

You get all of the instant streaming library (HD AND SD) and there really is no loading. You also get the entire disc library.

I can't say I could even use this since I have a PC that is also hooked up to my gaming screen, but thanks for the impressions, really haven't heard much about it.

Would be awesome to stream some Futurama to your TV

My Wii is on Wi-Fi as well, so I don't think that is the difference.  Downloading other things at the same time is definitely going to hurt streaming though.  I would try it without that and see how it runs.
