Forums - PC - Finally getting a NEW Laptop! Suggestions Please (I am clueless about this)

So I have had this old SONy Vaio Desktop computer (the model is so old sony don't make em anymore) for the last ten years.

The best game I could play with no major crashes is probably "The Movies" (by Lionhead studios).

And now my parents are gonna give me a new laptop as a present! Obviously I want to play games on it so MAC is out of question, and I want this laptop to stay with me throughout uni which will start in september & will carry on for 5 years, so reliability is KEY.

Now which laptops would you reccommend? Being a SONY Sheep I thought VAIO might be good, but the word on the street isn't the best for VAIO.

To make it easier here are my "key points" I want in the laptop:

1. Be able to last for 5 years and shouldn't have issues like every month = Reliability

2. Be able to play latest PC games on a good setting (not necessarily "high) & be able to play Pc games for the coming years = Future Proof

3. Should be kind of stylish = Nice to look at

4. Budget is between £500 & £1,500.......possibly higher.

5. Should be Windows 7

EDIT:

IMPORTANT POINT -- Should have a  HDMI port and be able to act as a MONITOR for Ps3! (if thats even possible)

Please help!

Why not get a monitor seperate? You can easily get a 24" HDMI compatible monitor for pretty cheaply, or alternatively you can get a TV. To have that capability on a laptop is pretty rare / non existant. They did not anticipate your wanting to use the monitor inside a laptop to display other content.

Tease.

Alienware laptops advertised here are good for gaming but you need to spend approx GBP2,000.00 or more to get a very good one. They look cool but you better do some research on web.
If you were happy with Vaio for 10 years, stick to the brand. I have had Compaq, Toshiba and Dell. Dell is fine so far but only use it for internet and MS office. Compaq screen broke after 1y and Toshiba gave up after 3ys.

Lmao.

Not going to happen. Unless you get a Mac, most laptops break in 3 years, and a Mac is awful for gaming. Plus no laptop is future proof for gaming. I think the best mobile GPU you can get is the GTX260M which is okay, but not future proof at all as it's not DX11.  Best bet is alienware or any laptop with the GTX260M. Anything like the 9600M isn't going to be close to future proof at all.

Get a desktop if you want future proof and reliable.

Actually thats an Nvidia rebrand. The best GPU is the mobility HD 58xx series.

If it's for gaming and you r willing to spend more than £1000 then I would recommend "Alienware M15x". You also say you need it for at least 5 years and future proof so I suggest some customizations:
1) Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
2) LCD: 15.6-inch Wide Full HD Display (1920x1080)
3) Memory : 4 GB DDR3 or 4096 MB DDR3
4) Hard drive: 500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
5) Graphic Card: 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260M graphics card
6) Upgrade the battery to 9-cell

If you want blue ray or not is up to you

So I went to the dell site and custmized this laptop (without blue ray) and it cost after taxes and delivery £1,348.99. Good luck
