Forums - Sales - How Sony could have destroyed the 360 and remained profitable

well what if Microsoft hadn't brought 360 at all in the 1st place? Sony would have emerged the most successful HD console from launch with substantial 3rd party support adding monopoly to it's predecessor's success. Well, even as of now the losses should be eventually recouped, just a matter of time till the console reaches it's saturation. Whatever profits PS2 made will be definitely recovered. Wait till GT5 release for the start of the journey...

Did Jim Jones give you the Kool-Aid himself? It must've gotten stronger in flavor since I was a kid.......

its too late for this crap so u just wasted 20 min of ur life writing this book. Sony knows what they are doing. I admit sony did make a mistake and they knows that. Sony is not run by 15 years old kids. So don`t worry.

Advantages: u could have play games or watch porn lol

Disadvantages: No life

It amuses me how this guy still has this threads. After years of doing this I would have become fed up with this site.

If Sony never made the PS3 there would be 70 million 360's out there.

This is what I feel too. If the PS3 did not existed, the 360 sales will be slightly lesser than the combined sales of PS3 and 360.

I agree with the idea!

Some people complain that 360 HD would have won... but looking at Wii you can see that that is not the issue!

And PS2 easily could get a port of Modern Warfare and it would be something like the Wii version...
Most games they could still make on PS2...

No way, the PS3 has brought forth some of my favorite games of all time, they wouldn't be possible without the PS3 and the Cell engine. It's undeniable the PS3 has had its faults, but its still early in its life cycle and will soon turn to profit for SONY. PS3 has had an amazing turnaround and for you to wish that it never happened is stupid. If you were to say that it should've started at $300, I would agree with you. But this is just absurd.

That's what I'm saying!  I think...

They read the market wrong and didn't know how best to proceed themselves, getting overly focused in the tech of the Cell and BR rather than really looking at trends and what was changing in the industry.  I think it didn't help they also ended up confused around how to market and position the PS3 either.  I think Ken knew what he was delivering in his mind, but the company clearly wasn't sure how to translate that.  Games console?  Multi-media entertainment hub?  Blu Ray player?  What was it?  The Wii and 360 both benefited I felt from a clear strategy and clarity of marketing.

Wii went Blue Ocean but knowingly so.  360 went after online and capturing more PC orientated players while courting third party developers big time.

I was saying that at a fundamental level their mindset was wrong so they could not have captured the market. Had they not made those mistakes we would be pointing out a completely new set of mistakes.

Yah, probably.  I think a mix of stuff put them in a very tricky place vs the others.  Not excusing the mistakes, mind, just recognizing they had, as the two time market leader fighting on multiple fronts - not just games but physical media formats, etc - the most complex position to defend.

And boy were they outflanked!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
