Forums - Nintendo - Let's design the Nintendo 3DS!

After the "leak" of the 3DS mockup that set VGC ablaze for a period, I decided to take that exact same idea and clean it up to what would be a more "logical" idea along the same lines. 28 of the 40 people replying agreed that it was definitely better than the previous design concept, but the general consensus was that there was still something missing. I was somewhat skeptical of the design, myself, and you all confirmed that I wasn't the only one.

So tell me. Is the following image a good start, or should it be scrapped to allow for something entirely different? Should we keep the dual-analog, or take it down to one? Should the screen be able to go clamshell, or is it fine like this? Do we still want a tablet function? Does there still need to be a second screen on the bottom half? Share with me what you think, and what can be changed to come up with a "real" Nintendo 3DS. I'll take the ideas and edit them together to create a new mockup.

Take out the right analog stick , and but the buttons a little under from where they are now ... for start ^~

Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!

I'm hoping for some sort of trigger button/buttons for a wider variety of gameplay options. It could actually compensate for the lack of buttons. A trigger button would do a world for those FPS hounds.

These two contradict each other. To remove the second analog would be to eliminate proper controls for a FPS, and I know for a fact people have been itching for a GOOD handheld FPS with nice controls for a long, long time. Currently, neither the DS or the PSP can pull it off.

With that said, I've got to have a darn good reason to completely eliminate the second analog. Couldn't the buttons just be reorganized to make it work better? I was thinking I could move select over to the D-pad side, which would allow for more space on the button-side, enabling a better setup for that side.

And trigger buttons are nearly impossible on a handheld. The only way I could see us getting more than one button on each shoulder would be if they pulled a classic-controller design for it.

exactly like the ds, but with the 2 screens closer to each other. Done.

I think this mockup looks good. Also the model should be pocket-sized. That's very important for portability. The DSi XL and 4.3" PSP Slim are too wide.

I think the touchscreen and analog interface would be a suitable solution to that problem... Dementium and Metroid Prime Hunters were sufficiently accurate with the finger nub. The d pad was the only problem regarding its linear movement.

Two screens(both touch screen)
two cameras(like the dsi)
two analog stick
rumble
built in hard drive/ flash drive
sd card slot
backwards compatability for other ds games
3d(obviously)
tilting feature (like the iphone) This is my ideal handheld.

If the handheld is using the Sharp screens unveiled not too long ago and it's still dual screen, it'll look something like this:

I think the one screen possibility is actually a plausible one looking at how wide the above would be.

That's what I'm thinking. They COULD make  the bottom screen smaller, but that'd be weird and inconvenient.
