Forums - Nintendo - Wii - first impressions from a (mainly) PC gamer

Good for you.

I am hearing great things about Medal of Honor 2: Heroes if you like FPS Wii control.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

I prefer Wii + PC as well for a combination, though I found Wiimote to be a much better... eh... mouse (*drowsy)

Edit: Oh, welcome to a rare club... as far as I can tell.

Edit2: And I mean Wii + PC only club or whatever you prefer.

I'm also a Wii+PC only.  Who needs a 360 if you have a PC?  I mean I just got GoW and Viva Pinata.  Who needs a PS3, ever?  (I'm kidding).

The PC has awesome exclusives, plus most of the 360/PS3 library, with better graphics, mods, and more!  Wii + PC is the best way to go.

NJ5, you sound like me, right down to playing the MegaDrive around friends houses, I got the Wii back at Launch (one of the 7 min Amazon.co.uk bunch) and I've been enjoying it ever since,

I'm not sure If I would rate the Wiimote as better then the Mouse but it really is very different and fresh, at first I could hardly control it in MP3 (I set it to advanced straight away) but after a few mins I found that I quickly adapted and my aiming/movement improved fast.

Did you find it was harder to adapt to the nunchuck for movement then the Wiimote for aiming?

WiiPC - All you'll ever need.

"..just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake"

I'm almost through MP3, and will have a detailed review up at some point. But one thing is certain - they absolutely nailed the controls (at least the movement/aiming).

I'll never even consider playing a dual-analog FPS ever again.

Its basically mouse control IMO - except potentially better, and no need to play on a table/desk. In short, its a must-purchase for any "gamer" who also owns a Wii.

BTW - I'm not sure if you have a choice/option in terms of "what" TV you get - but with component cables, MP3 looks gorgeous on a decent Plasma set. I wouldn't recommend a LCD (of any size) for play with a Wii - Plasma is the way to go.

I gave Wii Sports a try, and it turns out that my girlfriend can play it much better than me (none of us ever touched a Wii before). I guess people may be right when they say that unexperienced game players can have an edge with the Wii! I felt the controls as a bit unresponsive at times, but it was such a short test that I couldn't really complain yet.

Then, I proceeded to try on what I was really looking forward to - Metroid Prime 3. My first impression was that the graphics were great, much better than I thought possible on a SDTV with simple composite cables. Then I started playing. I maneuvered around the starting area, and after a few minutes it struck me - this controller scheme has to be tried by EVERYONE. Really, I never felt so immersed in a game before (being an experienced player of PC FPSs and all). The controls couldn't be more intuitive, and they feel so good, that I can only imagine the smile on my face. I am now positive that I will really enjoy this console, and my mouth waters from thinking about the innovations that future software can bring to the console.

I know a girl who can beat me at every Wii Sports game no matter what... She doesn't even try to "play" the game, it's just the equivalent of button mashing since she just flails her arms around... AND WINS.

As for that "First Time Prime" smile (copyrighted), for me it lasted about 5 hours, and I owned the first two. I prefer the Wii FPS controls in many ways to the PC's simply because they're more immersive. (e.g. Rather then press "e" to open a door, you make the motion) For me, it makes the games more "real" than upgraded graphics.

Heheeh your STILL in denial???

"..just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake"

PC gamer here as well

Wanted a console so I could entertain family and friends, was going to get the PS3, but to cut a long story short got the Wii instead

PC + Wii is a natural complimentary combination, both offering very different play styles and games from each other

Gaming feels complete and well covered with this combo, making me one happy gamer

I always wanted to get the opinions of PC players towards the Wii.

Before launch I heard many of them on message boards sound much more interested in that system over the XBox 360 & PS3. This is why I had no qualms about Wiimote being a success and no qualms about Metroid Prime 3 being a success. I remember some article last year with a guy who played a Metroid Prime 2 Wiimote controlled rig-up saying the control was basically like butter.

PC Gamers and Console Gamers seem to be from two different beasts so I'm always interested in PC Gamers' opinions about a console. Always felt that Wii would pull them into the audience. Consoles are supposed to provide a fresh and unique experience that doesn't seem like the PC redone. That's what keeps them alive.
