Not in Q2 afaik.  It's been pushed to "fall".

I was pointing at Kenology :P

Yeah looks like Wii's lineup slightly edges PS3's next quarter, for now at least

Oh, sorry.

But I still kinda disagree.  GT5 will do well, but it won't have MoHun/Nintevergreen style legs.  Never has before, and I doubt it will on PS3.

Yeah true, and especially since the series is in decline in japan. However he asked if Sony ever had a game to do that before, now GT was able to do that before, and i still think it can carry the PS3 for 2-3 months. Maybe not the same as the mario effect, or wii series effect, but probably will be the leggiest game on the PS3

Impressive HW numbers for everything but 360. So since I doubt Pro Yakyuu gave any bump it looks like PS3 baseline sales are in the high 30ks because of Torne. An even bigger bump than I anticipated.

I beg to differ. It will drop again next week and the week after to another baseline.

Yeah, this week was actually a 25% drop, we're not at the new baseline at all yet.  I do think Torne's helped, but you also can't discount the back-to-back 500k+ sellers the previous two weeks... and looking at PS3's future lineup, that's something that won't be happening again for the foreseeable future.  In fact, it doesn't have even one game for the rest of Q2 that's close to as big as Yakuza 4 or Hokuto Musou.

Well we'll see next week, especially since there is absolutely nothing coming out this week. And isn't it a bit early to be judging how Nier will perform? It's a new IP after all. And you forgot Mod Nation Racers. That could probably sell 200k+.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Nier will probably do around what most new bigger budget 3rd party IP HD RPGs have done this gen: more than 100k, less than 200k.  Along the lines of Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Valkyria Chronicles or End of Eternity PS3.

MNR will be lucky to hit 100k (LBP didn't, just barely).  200k+ is pure fantasy.

NDS (2010) 867.872 -18,91% / (2009) 1.070.293
PSP (2010) 854.268 +14,21% / (2009) 747.984

Wii (2010) 691.223 +70,56 / (2009) 405.263
PS3 (2010) 577.460 +56,72% / (2009) 368.472
Xbox 360 (2010) 49.964 -67,20% / (2009) 152.341

these are sure some amazing number for both PS3 n Wii.. But i think PS3 needs a title like Monster Hunter which can sell weeks after weeks after week in 15 - 30k range.. to keep itself at some respectable level.

Wii has got this NSMB which is having an amazing run.. selling 30 - 40k for over 4 months is outstanding.. else PS3 will only get boast on new releases and after that it will fizzle down again.. but if they have something monster hunter or NSMB type than it will become a real contender for Wii.. otherwise it always have this fear of falling too low if something big is not released atleast once a month

That is probably the biggest "if" ever.  I don't know if Sony is even capable of producing a game with the type of staying power that Monster Hunter (on PSP) and NSMBWii - have they ever?

With Move they do have a window of oppurtunity, if they can create an app which is not only fun n addictive but also hit the customer taste rightly n gets a strong marketing and good words of mouth than they can get that IP.. But i believe if they go with a copy cat stuff than they r going to fail miserably.. its stupid to think Wii audience is going to come to PS3 to play a clone of Wii which may be better than the original but it is still a clone..

So they need to get something original, something new for the customer to buy PS3, not totally new or novel something unique in an old concept..

I forgot about Gran Tourismo - though I think it might be questionable if it'll reach 10 million this gen.

Is there any compelling reason that MNR would sell 200K+? Just because it's a kart racer? This does not look like a Japan-centric game at all.

@jarrod

FIFA Worldcup potential for 200K? REALLY? When was the last FIFA or FIFA Worldcup game that breaks 200K in Japan?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

When was the last FIFA game to break 100k?

Winning Eleven might as well be the only soccer series in Japan.

@outlaw

I actually checked. FIFA Worldcup 2002 shows 160K in Japan on VGC and I didn't see a Worldcup version for 2006. So I guess that was the last one.

EDIT: found one over 200K at Japan Game Chart which uses Famitsu numbers.

FIFA Soccer World Championship
FIFAサッカー ワールドチャンピオンシップ
EA
エレクトロニック・アーツ
SPT 25/05/2000 101.599 40,26% 252.360

I dont know but i have that feeling that FF14 could be a "Monster Hunter" for the PS3

Oh wow. FIFA was popular at one point then.
