They weren't intending on announcing the 3DS back then (which we now know was a last-minute decision to stave off potentially devastating leaks from Japanese business news, so that they could make the announcement themselves), so perhaps Iwata could have been lying a little.

3DS will be involved in some way, and Demotruk's argument about making it 3DS exclusive is compelling. Pokemon is definitely a franchise that you don't have to worry about having enough of a userbase to buy it, it'll make a userbase for itself, and is guaranteed to sell a risky new handheld device

I don't disagree, hence the "take it as you will". Until Nintendo states otherwise, I'm inclined to believe that it will be on the DS. This was an investor relation meeting, so Nintendo could have not even mentioned the DS and everyone would have just assumed it. However, I can see why people would think it could be for the 3DS too.

the best scenario is this game playing on the DS and also compatible with 3D features on 3DS, if you ask me , it would be a 3DS only, this would be the only game that it would need to all ready has a rocket start ...but in the same time i think is way to strange to nintendo unveiling a 3DS game footage or picture that soon , something just does not seen right with the timing ....

Time and time again, you people fail to pay attention to history. What has Nintendo been known to do with titles when the game's medium fits into multiple devices?

Gold/silver were GameBoy Color titles, but they were playable on the original GameBoy, making them "technically" GB titles as well.

It's not impossible, and entirely probable, that Nintendo will repeat that performance with the 5th gen.

It's on the regular DS?? It's not gonna be a revolution like I was expecting then.

Maybe the new pokemon game will be like Gold/Silver so that its compatible with Game boy but was enhanced on Gameboy Colour

I’d like to think generation 5 is on the 3DS seeing as the announcement is so close… but something doesn’t add up. Why show the game before the system? That’s unusual. But then why announce a new generation of Pokemon for the current DS? Something doesn’t seem right, yet one has to be. Maybe they’re just going to show an image of the game without revealing much more. Either way I’m excited.

The GBC wasn't considered a "new system" by Nitendo. It was considered part of the Game Boy line. The DS, DSLite, iDS, and iDSXL are all part of the DS line. Nintendo consideres the 3DS a new system.

obviously this doesn't have to stop Nintendo from doing what they did before, it just feels different. As killeryoshis suggested, maybe they will release the game twice, once for each system.

Or people are just trowing hype , maybe all that they do is to show one or two pokémons from the 5th gen , and not the game itself .
