Forums - Gaming - The worst sequel to a game?

I hope by SMB2 you mean SMB2 Japan, because Doki Doki panic is a pretty good game >:(

Above: still the best game of the year.

I started playing Parasite with the second one, well, I only played the second one so I really don't complain. I liked that game but I know it was very Resident Evil like. I wish the first one would be released in the PSN.

Alundra 2 was indeed crappy. The first Alundra was awesome. I'd play Alundra over Zelda any day.

I'll ride the bandwagon of hate and acknowledge Devil May Cry 2 as the worst sequel I have see.

You should give the first one a chance whenever you can, trust me, after playing it, the second one will seem like a below-average game.

Not only in terms of story, but because of the battle system itself. It masterfully balances ATB and free movement, meaning that you can dodge normally but still have to play it in a turn-based manner, albeit with tons of derivative strategy with the implemention of a different Parasite Energy system and a more complex weapon system. Plus, it had Eve, one of the best villains ever created (Original Eve still kicks her arse, but only those who have reached her know this xD).

I actually enjoyed Devil May Cry 2, but it was the worst of the bunch, that's true.

I almost bought it at eBay one day but it was too expensive. I have seen gameplay videos in YouTube and I liked what I saw. If the game is released in the PSN I am willing to buy it. :)

Is that Simmons in your avatar? XD

I bought PE day one xD I still remember it vividly, i've been saving up money for about 6 months, since I was 11 back then and I just had enough money for school food XD.

When I saw the first scans on a local gaming magazine on Venezuela, on 1997, I immediatly fell in love with the game. September 9, 1997 was one heck of a day for me :D

As it stands, Parasite Eve is my second favourite game of all time, just being outclassed by Lufia 2.

Yup, that's Simone, big Simone Simons and Epica fan here :D

I reacall doing something similar with MGS1 and FFIX back in the day, even though I didn't have to save money for those like you did. XD

I recall watching some scenes of PE1 in the Playstation Magazine (wonder if it still exists), I think it was the walkthough for the game, and I always had that ich of a need to play that game.

Lufia 2 is awesome. :D

I knew it. That golden hair is just impossible to confuse with someone else's. XD

FFIX was funny, since I bought it when I went with a school trip to England for a week. Ended up buying the game and the guide with it, and I stayed broke for the rest of the trip :P

Lufia 2 is amazing, basically the epitome of gaming for me :)

Hahaha, I have better pics of her, from the last concert here in Portugal. I'm just too lazy to upload them, but I will have too eventually since I want to get a new Avy with her XD.

The thing with FFIX for me was kind of special, the game was released, if I remember correctly, in North America in November the 15th, that was very close to my birthday so I remember that I asked my father to buy the game for me so he went and brought it to me after work. That was awesome! Man, you bought the guide for this game? That guide must be one of the most blatant rip-off in gaming history. XD A friend of mine bought it for me and when I started reading and saw that there was nothing in it but links with a description that said: "if you want to know more, log on to this X website and find the info there". I was like: WTF! I didn't even have internet back then. lolz

Yeah man, that game was awesome. A person I knew over the Internet recommended me to play that game and so I gave it a try and was really impressed with it. I still hold the FFs closer to my heart though. :P

I liked Epica's first album a lot. I still like them but I liked them more when the classical compositions were a more prominent aspect of their music and their sound was more melodic. I prefer the guy from God Dethroned better behind the drum kit than the guy the had previously. Watching them live must be a blast. Simmon's voice is amongst the best female voices out there. Portugal, I thought you were from Venezuela or something? I was going to speak Spanish here and everything. lol

@jesus kung fu magic:

Man, you didn't like God of War II? You think it destroyed the franchise? Why do you think that? I mean. I guess it must be related to storyline, perhaps? Otherwise I'd say that the gameplay is very similar. I am clueless. XD

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Devil May Cry 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4

MGS4? ...

I've yet to play a sequel that just sucks compared to the original..

I thought the story and the plot twists were awful, and the drebin points made the game very easy. Also you only got to play the game for 4 hours. There were other things I hated about this game, but it's not coming to me atm. All-in-all, the first three were better, imo.

I'd throw in Crisis Core: FFVII as well, if it counts - terrible gothic poetry dialogue, incredibly easy gameplay (all you have to do is press x; Zack runs to the enemies by himself!). The DMW reel was stupid and annoying when it occurred every five seconds during a boss fight. It felt like the game was the one playing the game. All I ever did was run around in circles until the game entered a modulation phase aka limit break. The game defeated most of the boss fights for me. The only good things about this game were the graphics and soundtrack.

Did you try Crisis Core on hard? I beat it on normal and thought it was too easy like you said. On hard I died a lot and it made it more fun and even a bit frustrating.

Worst sequel like everybody has said DMC2 and Zelda 2 on NES was awful.

chapions of norath 2

Gotta agree with DMC 2... DMC 3 made it awesome again until DMC 4 came and ruined it.

Prince of Persia:Warrior Within

To go from a genre toping game in PoP:TSoT , to this piece of garbage is mind boggling.......it is like they said "How are we going to fuck up this series?" well rock music where it shouldnt be helps.....and glitches everywhere.....and overly dramatic cut-scenes......and destroying the beautiful pacing they had with the first.....the J man could go on and on but seriously WTF was ubisoft thinking.

GOW2 would have been a close second in destroying a franchise the J man loved but the J man cherished PoP more than GOW so its dissappointment comes first.

Exactly my thoughts.

U must be crazy :p  GOW3>>GOW 2>>>>>GOW1.

Chrono Cross.

I was going to say Super Mario Bros. 2.  The real one in Japan, ya know, "The Lost Levels."  It's basically a nightmare mode mod for the original, but was actually called Super Mario Bros. 2.  I think the only things they added were poison mushrooms, warp pipes that go backwards, and wind.

But then I read this post.  Chrono Cross.  Definitely.

Deus Ex : Invisible War - because it managed to mess up an award winning formula and spark a lot of 'console dumbing down = bad' vitriol between PC gamers and consoles.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Cannon fodder 2 - anyone remember that?

final fantasy x-2 and MW2
