Forums - Sales - Why does everyone think Natal will be huge?

I seriously don't know how big Natal will be. When Nintendo unveiled the Wii during E3 I just knew it was going to be huge. I was on video game message boards saying it will outsell its competitors which people thought I was crazy.

My prediction on Natal right now is that it will fail to make a significant impact but my view can change come this E3. But right now there is a lot going against it:

1) Microsoft and most 3rd parties have no experience with family, casual games, nor with games using motion cam tech.

2) It's going to be buggy! If Matt C. is to be believed they are having a hard time trying to get it to work. Nintendo's R & D has been working on motion controlls presumably since early 2000s and the Wiimote still came out to be inadequate which is why there is an add on. Even with the add on there are issues with calibration. How much more of an issue will full body control will be?

3) Xbox 360 is a dudebro console and I don't know if any massive marketing can change that perception. Even the na e sounds hardcore.

I don't know if this is about April stuff, but I think because natal has a "different" design compared to the Move and wii remote plus

                                       That's Gordon Freeman in "Real-Life"

ive only seen two gmes, milo (LOL) and the other game where u have to catch a big red bal( hahaha) i doubt thats gonna make natal huge, so right now no1 should say natal will be huge, at least wait for e3,lol

Because it's really Microsoft's last hope to end this gen in 2nd. If Natal fails the X360 will fail from then till the end of the gen, if Natal is a success then the X360 may stay in second. So a lot of X360 fans are hoping it'll do well.

Errm no, the 360 slim will gurantee 2nd place when its released without the need of natal, natal will just add to the sales, the ps3 slim sold loads and is only doing well now due to the early release of the slim, the 360 slim will sell MUCH more than the ps3 slim.

And where has it been confirmed that the X360 Slim is coming??

it will come... expect an E3 announcement about it and a $50 price cut from M$. And natal will sell like gangbusters because of it.

ITT: Sony Defense Force in full swing. It's funny how they try so hard.

Anyway, I completely hope it fails as well as the Move. A friend of mine wants them to take off, considering it will end up making gaming incredibly niche and put pressure on Nintendo to start trying to get back that fanbase they once abandoned. However, I've pretty much have given up on that notion, and realized that gimmick games are going to sell more than they should, especially after "Just Dance" sold 2 million pretty easily, which is probably more than every other Ubisoft game on the Wii combined. This is the direction of the gaming community now, as games are simplified and tuned down, much like the rumors of Socom 4 being simplified to appeal to a larger audience. So there will be an rapid increase of shovelware on both systems. At least half the games shown for the Move fit into this category. Can almost guaranteed that Natal will be in the same boat.

You seem to be new here, or at least not well versed with the community. Let me tell you a couple things:

1. This isn't Gamefaqs. Just because people have opinions doesn't mean they're fanboys, or belong to a group of fanboys. Don't bring that bullshit here.

2. How will more motion controls make gaming niche? It's really the other way around. And Just Dance isn't a gimmick game.

3. Just Dance hasn't outsold every other Ubisoft game on the Wii combined. Try actually looking at some sales numbers (we've got plenty of them).

4. Games will continue to have varying levels of complexity, just as they always have. Elitism won't stop that.

Whenever I go to any game shop, I always see casual people buying EA active, wii fit. So me thinks Natal will do good because it is even simpler than the wii.

I think they will be marketing the Natal not the xbox console.

While I do enjoy being a little sarcastic every once in a while, I see I struck a nerve. I apologize. However:

1) So when people do it on gamefaqs, it's fanboyism, but here it isn't? Or are we just staying away from the imminent brawl that will occur when the two consoles fans when both are released. I can understand the second option. But I do give the topic credit for not making it that way yet.

2) It'll make it niche by basically segregating the population. This way, even mainstream titles become more niche. It's not like the casual crowd will pick up Socom 4 on the PS3 just because there's Move controls now. And telling me Just Dance isn't a gimmick game is a laugh.

3) I see sarcasm doesn't exist on these boards. Very well. However, the trend of games shows that the casual fanbase is basically neck and neck with many AAA titles with pretty well established brands. Which is basically signaling a eventual split in the upcoming generation, and expect companies to split their interests three different ways to try to appease everyone.

4) Like I said above, they will, but if these take off, it will be much more hectic than it is now. Companies could try and tone down their "Hardcore" games to appeal to a larger audience, while "Casual games" will...probably keep doing what they are doing. While innovations like the Wii motion shows promise of trying to improve on the already popular system, however I'm thinking more long term, as companies will take the more profitable route to make a new IP more appealing to a ever growing casual crowd.

All I'm saying is I wanted Motion Control to be kept on a console, and now failing that, I want it to die off. Much like this growing desire for graphics being suddenly a signal of what makes a great game.

im interested to see what games can be played on natal. party minigames will be fun, but all else you need buttons
