Forums - General - Tragic case of bullying. Thoughts?

http://video.foxnews.com/v/4129643/tragic-case-of-phoebe-prince -link   Should these kids be charged for bullying? Is this just over-reacting. Did these kids really cause her sucide? Thoughts? Comments?

I guess this thread is to sad for people to comment in. :(

It is extremely sad. I'm typically not sure about such cases, but the fact that they vandalized a website in her memory shows that they're not remorseful in the least, so fuck them.

Any case of bullying is extremely sad. Here in Portugal we had a 12 year old kid who suicided because of long term bullying at his school, a month ago.

Bullies are a bunch of low self-esteem assholes whom their parents should have spanked more when they were younger, IMO.

I'm not inclined to believe anything from Fox News, but if this is true, it's horrible.

I'd be willing to bet that the teachers saw this on a regular basis and ignored it.

That's what happens here in Portugal. Teachers and other school workers see the agressions and the bullying and don't give a flying fuck about it.

Then when something bad happens, they say that someone should have done something sooner >_>

I say don't make "bullying" a crime, as that is a vague and broad term, that includes things that are petty, to those that are serious.

Kids should be charged with:

Stalking
Harassment
Etc

We should put in a system, for high school, where students can report bullying, school can investigate, and the school can impose a loose restraining order type thing. If the kid reports with evidence, or the school investigates themselves, that the "Bullies" aren't respecting that non-binding/legal order, then they can take it to court, or take further and more serious action.

If the kid suicides before that, then they can bring it up in court and show some concrete or factual proof of what has been occurring.

This.

I don't have an issue with a little harmless bullying, I used to be a bit of a bully; but that's not what it was in this case. Sounds more like stalking and harassment.

I don't think fighting fire with gasoline is such a good idea.

Violent upbringing - and bad upbringing in general - can easily cause children to develop mental problems (like a lack of self-esteem, depression, insecurity), causing some people to take them out on others in order to cope with them, thus either creating bullies or making them even worse than they already were.

EDIT: Just for the record, I am in no way defending these kids that most likely caused this girl to commit suicide, and they should be held accountable, disciplined and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I'm just saying that if you're going to fight bullying, you might as well do it right while you're at it.
