Its just for the advertisement, MW2 for the Xbox haven't sold past 11 million

That's talking about the Halo series before Halo 3. Halo 1 + 2 if you look at this site, are at a combined 14.8M units.

Is everyone just glossing over that word? The Halo series has sold more than 14.5 million games worldwide. Also, this statement is probably from the Halo 3 launch, so only includes Halo 1 (I think it sold around 5 million) and Halo 2(~9 million according to VGC).

They are talking about Halo:CE and Halo 2. It's pretty easy to see that by how it's worded... And with them having combined sales of 14.8M

They're probably not counting the halo 3 bundled copies.
If not, just a marketing trick, because they know it'll surpass halo 3 in the future and used that to sell a product in the now.
