What is your favorite genre and why?

Action 3 11.54%

Adventure 2 7.69%

Music/Party 0 0%

Racing/Sports 2 7.69%

RPGs 19 73.08%

Shooters 0 0%

Total:26

I apologize for the limited choices, there is only a 6 option limit, so I will add 2 in via text here. The choices are:

1 - Action games - their focus is on tight controls and immersive gameplay.
2 - Adventure games - their focus is on exploration, solving puzzles, and collecting.
3 - Music/Party games - their focus is on multiplayer comradery and pick-up-and-play ability.
4 - Racing/Sports games - their focus is on competitiveness between friends or player versus A.I., and simulation to some extent.
5 - RPGs games - their focus is on character progression (such as: leveling up, stats, skills) and immersive story.
6 - Shooters games - their focus is on skill of precision and competitive rivalry.
7 - Strategy games - their focus is on planning, tactical maneuvering, resource management, and competitiveness.
8 - Simulation games - their focus is realistic emulation (not graphically, but rather physics realism and systems realism) and, sometimes contradictory to that fact, is the god-like control the player has in some of these games.

Anyway, my choice are the Action games, my favorite amongst them specifically are the Action RPGs.
The reason I choose action games is because they are always gameplay focused by definition. And, I am one of those peeps that takes Gameplay over all else, especially if the game is local co-operative.

So, I would like to know, what is your guys'/gals' choices and why?

Around the Network

RPG's for a combinations of compelling story, fantastic music, exciting/fun gameplay and great explorations

Highlights include the FF series, ESIV: Oblivion, Pokemon Series, SW:Knights Of The Old Republic

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

RPG. Story. Music. Scenery.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

I have 2 favorite genres that are equal for me.

One is RPGs. RPGs of all types.

The other type of game would be side scrolling action/adventure Platformer games with focus on item collection or RPG elements. A hard to classify genre that has a very limited selection of titles, but many of very high quality. This genre includes games such as Metroid, Castlevania SotN, Odin Sphere/Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Cave Story.

I love both of these genres equally and can't really pick one over the other.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Shooters: they are the most social games. There is a lot of variety between the third person shooter and the first person shooter. They combine elements of action games and adventure games (assuming you can even really define those genres, I think not).

They keep the adrenaline pumping, oh hell yah!!!

Strategy games. Their depth and how they make you feel all powerful is simply lightyears beyong other genres.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Its funny, I used to always think of myself as an RPG guy when I was younger.

However, I think what it was, was that the high quality of RPGs back then outpaced other genres, so I would tend to perfer them over lower quality games of the genre I actually liked the most, Action games.

Also, I was young and had little gamming experience, so RPGs being mostly turn based back then were the only games I could actually keep up with (and not get so frustrated with) APM wise...since it waited for the player's input.

I love when someone posts my thoughts. Just replace Pokemon with Mass Effect and this is me to a "T".

Have you tried Shadow Complex?

Even with more room, you don't have my favorite genre

I'll tell you anyway: Survival Horror. The atmosphere, characters, stories of most of them are compelling and interesting. Not to mention a lot of them involve having very few weapons making the game play all the more scary and challenging.

This would be my #2. The only problem is there aren't enough of them.
