I have 2 favorite genres that are equal for me.
One is RPGs. RPGs of all types.
The other type of game would be side scrolling action/adventure Platformer games with focus on item collection or RPG elements. A hard to classify genre that has a very limited selection of titles, but many of very high quality. This genre includes games such as Metroid, Castlevania SotN, Odin Sphere/Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Cave Story.
I love both of these genres equally and can't really pick one over the other.
