He want's to keep it to himself? Is that why he is telling everyone not to update there ps3 because he has a custom firmware coming, do you not understand what custom firmware did to PSP?

You guys understand what this guy is doing is completely legal right? Unfortunately I can't see him being able to fix the problem with Sony constantly updating the console.

No Sony messed up. They over reacted and know have given an excuse to the hacker community to crack there system to run Linux on there machine. You can try and blow that off but hackers try to run linux on everything(they just loaded linux on the N900). Fromt here you get the Homebrew community because of the ability of running unsigned code. This guys exploit that they are patching was very complicated and risky it involved opening up the console and it didn't even run games. perhaps it could of been simpler but now because of Sony's reaction I can guarantee you will be able to run ISOs on your PS3 slim in 6 months.
Oh well. |
Sony did'nt give anybody an excuse. The hacker community's going to do what they do regardless. lol

Are we talking about the initial hack, or the firmware patch here?
My point is, he wasn't quiet about his initial hack. Had he intended to use the explit to his advantage, he would not have released his discovery so publicly, and thus let Sony know. He would have used it for as long as he could.

He isn't doing anything ilegal, it's what you do with an exploited system that actually breaks the law. Why is the PSP still being hacked? Because Sony can't do a damn thing about it, that's why.
@ fordy )
if someone does it quietly it may or may not be more of a financial damage to companies, then if someone does it openly, but if someone is open about it, it induces more fear into companies and shareholders. you know, greed and fear are the two things that really rule the stock markets

Well actually they did. You see the Hacker particularly Linux Freaks that love to put linux on toasters really ignored the PS3 because it could run linux already. But by taking away the linux feature that was already there they now have given a new device for Linux to run and plus the motivation of those who actually used the PS3 for linux.
No one hacks a Dell to run windows. However if Dell took away the ability for windows to run on their computers people would hack it. Before Homebrew came about you cold load Gecko Linux on the Wii. people run Ubuntu on phones. Some peopel hack for the challenge.

again, not true everywhere. There are multiple countries that have passed anti DRM-breaking laws. In fact, I just checked and he is located in the US, which I already pointed out the DMCA law.
