Forums - Sony - Self-proclaimed PS3 hacker GeoHot: "DO NOT UPDATE" to 3.21.

@steve

I think we are in agreement. Malicious hacks suck and doing them "just because you can" is complete and utter BS.

I just think that this move will open the floodgates for CFW instead of adding more security as Sony thinks it will.

@Kasz216

You approve of that graph? Sales? Geohot's Fault? Those 2 things don't go together. That mystical purple dot in the legend is helping, your approval threshold for charts is pretty low ;)

I think this is just an April's Fool joke just like some others do (I mean, look at the goddamn release date). If it is, there will be a lot of laughs to be had. They will also turn the cards, and change GeoHot from being "THE PS3 HAKKA", to being an attention-whoring douchebag, which will be funny, too.

If it's not a joke, well, I have a slim, and none of those I know that have a phat don't even know about the OtherOS thing, so meh, but still, pretty lame.

GeoHot: Good luck, but you will fail. Sony have learnt a lot from the PSP: The homebrew community is now stuck in 5.50 CFW.

"I never intended to touch CFW, but if that's how you want to play... "
That does certainly help...

I mean the overall percentage of blame.  It's where I pretty much stand on the matter.

That has nothing to do with Sony, if you follow the scene you know it has more to do with the programmers not realeasing anything new. It doesn't keep anyone from pirating new games, they just patch the newer games to run in 5.50.

Hmm, didn't know about the game patching. Sorry, it's been a long time since I last checked properly the scene.

But still it has something to do with Sony: They only have a savedata exploit right now for 6.20, everything else was patched apparently. Reminds me of the old 2.50-2.60FW and the Noobz/Fanjita team times.

GO GEOHOT!

I for one would love custom firmware.

I sure hope you're kidding. A person could infect the systems like that, no?

How would they infect the system?

PSP has been hacked for years, so has the PS2, DS, 360, Wii, Gamecube, Xbox, etc...

Hackers are also the reason why PSP has features now like Internet Radio as well as an internet browser, both of which weren't available for the first year or so of release. It also opens up many homebrew options like emulators and various other user created games and programs. Believe it or not, but people like myself had the ability to browse net wireless from my PSP long before Sony ever gave us a browser of their own. People like me also had internet radio, avi support, etc...

Originally to view videos we had this annoying dual file format crap that Sony made us use.

Yes piracy almost always comes with it, but it won't kill it, especially considering how long it would take to download a BD game, not to mention burn one and probably end up losing PSN access just for playing it.

People acting like this is such a bad thing probably don't know much about the homebrew scene. I personally like getting the absolute most out of my purchase.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

People are trashing geohot all over the place. From a business perspective, this kind of thing is going to happen, and you'd rather have it over and done with than later when the going is getting better, like it is now. Sony should have known that it would be having these problems, to their credit though, the problem has been quickly fixed and also they are doing much more than MS and Ninty are to combat piracy which is why Sony's record is generally better here.

I think so... Honestly I might even go 20-30 with the 30 being Sony installing other OS.

Sony HAD to know that bypassing their DRM and firmware by allowing other OS was a VERY real possibility and as such should of considered that before offering the option.

Do people like what PSP can do today?

If so, then thank these hackers you oh so love to hate.

Thank the homebrew community.

Unfortunately though everyone only looks at the negatives and chooses to ignore all the upside, which unfortunately is how it almost always works.
