Should publishers of not so sucessful games be re-released?

Yes, Definitely 5 50.00%

Maybe, only those release... 1 10.00%

No, there would be a bunch of unsold copies 4 40.00%

Total:10

When I look at games like: Folklore (PS3), Castlevania series (NDS), Blazblue (PS3), and other great games that were released early in the system's life they didn't exactly get the sales they deserved.  Probably because of the smaller userbase, retail stores stop stocking them, and e-retailers stop advertising them after a couple months.  They're still great games even if they were released 2-4 years ago, especially on the current generation of systems.

If they could re-release such games again, epecially with a bigger user base they could definitely sell more, without having completely new game (perhaps, an extended edition for the rerelease too).  We do see such rereleases already, but only on the million-mulitmillion sellers. Some games don't sell even enough to warrant them getting a sequel either.

I only gave a handful of such examples of games, reply with any other favorites you may have that also you wish sold "way" more than it did.

Demon's Souls is profiting, bigtime. Nothing wrong with THOSE sales.

I survived the Apocalyps3

Depends on how they go about it. An easy fix would probably be just starting an ad campaign for the game a few years later, ship out some some copies [not too many clearly], and see how it goes. However, if things go wrong publishers might have to rebuy quite a few of those copies.

4 ≈ One

Well, that's what the Greatest Hits (etc.) line up is for.

There really isn't a high bar to get on that list.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I think Nintendo's doing it right with the Minna no Susume Selection in Japan. Rereleases have to adhere to certain quality standards (keep out the shovelware, give advantage to higher quality) but those standards are set by the public themselves (via Nintendo Channel voting). It really is a smart system, and one I'd like to see them use in the west too.

Why did you list BlazBlue? That released in 2009.

That game probably just didn't sell well because it's really a niche game.

Blazblue got released last week here in Australia, not sure if it's the same for all of PAL.
