Lots of my past writings are available on the internet, want me to look them up for you? I also predicted in mid 2005 that it would be troublesome to get legacy engines onto the Cell's SPEs, so it's not all just rosey expectations neither.

I expect the PS3 to continue to perform roughly on par with XBox 360 sales from the year before, until Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 are all on the market (when that will be exactly may not even be known to the developers themselves, but my guess would be in time for Christmas 2008). XBox 360 sales in the US will reach saturation levels not being able to compensate for lost ground in Japan, Europe and the rest of the world, this also due to the PS3 becoming more popular in the States itself. The Wii hype will dry down quite a bit, though still preferred by many young kids and females, after 2008 I expect HDTV penetration and higher expectations to considerably hurt worldwide sales, somewhere in 2009 I think HD DVD will have lost the format war and the Slimline PS3 really starts to take off.

Some comments by me from early December one year ago when the PS3 launched in the States and Japan, regarding the current holiday season:

(Continued with lenghty talk on pricing, technical matters, specs and other stuff you guys don't like to hear about)

About the Insomniac stuff, you should recognize it when PR talk hits you in the face as hard as those comments.


Now on topic, I expect the 360 to outsell PS3 in this holiday season, I'm not sure about the magnitude though. They were very close last week, but PS3 had a pricedrop recently which effect will slowly wear off during the next few weeks. Of course it will be outdone by the holiday rush, but the other platforms should see a higher bump in sales.

The PS3 got close to the 360 due to Japan. The holiday bump for Japan will be smaller and will come later than everywhere else, so in these terms, the advantage obviously goes to the 360. According to Media Create, this didn't even happen and the PS3 is already dropping from its post-new-model sales peak.

The only thing which could enable the PS3 to come close or surpass the 360 would be extremely good sales in its first European holiday period. I doubt this will happen, especially given how well the PS2 is still selling in Europe/Others.

Oblivion also came out later then the 360 version, i would expect some added features (look at virtual fighter for 360) Im trying to prove they focused on grahics to much. You can choose, it takes alot of time for those graphics in drakes, but it will take alot of time. While ps3 may be able to do both, ill take the still great looking graphics on games like mass effect and bioshock and take the time, over the splended graphics any day.
