Forums - Nintendo - The VGC Official Monster Hunter Tri Thread

Okay so yesterday I was hunting Rathalos and boom a stupid great jaggi pops up, so I wanted to see what I could do to a gold crown great Jaggi solo, while my 2 other guys were out Rathalos hunting I chased the jaggi back to it's nest and proceeded to 11 hit combo it to it's demise.

1 step closer to world domination.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

And i don't care what you're supposed to do (you can't stagger this thing. You can't), that self-healing move he has is cheating. I think i'll homebrew my way through this. If he's going to cheat like that, why can't i?

What weapon are you using?

Question for y'all: what's the easiest way to down a Gigginox? I can do it regularly, but that's only by bringing several antidotes, and that gets old quickly.

Lance. I've tried sword and shield too, and i get further until he pulls out that cheating move of his and just starts rendering all effort null and void.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I love fighting the Qurupeco. At some point, after fighting them a few times, I guess you learn all their attack patterns, and they become cake. I wrecked one last night online with my bro's char using some crappy GS (without green sharpness, which is painful), and although it took forever, it was fun constantly nailing him with full charge hits in the face (stops his heal) and dodging all his attacks.

I think I'm close to clearing single player mode, just need some resources for something (I need to break a Rath wing, I think?). So far single player mode has been easy enough, I've cruised through all of it with Great Jaggi armor and Great Swords. I'll try other 2h's later, but I refuse to use SnS / Lance, shields and wimpy hits are not my style. I like pure offense (full atk gems and all). I mean, nothing's more satisfying than a well-timed hit that knocks the monster out, or straight up cuts his tail off. Feel the power!

The most challenging fight so far is definitely Giggi - although he doesn't seem to have much hp, his attacks seem kind of ridiculous (especially that damn head extend thing), though I've only fought him twice. Other deaths... I've tried Diablos once a few days ago and failed, though I think I got him figured out. Rathalos isn't very hard, but he does take forever, and the only attack he hits me with is when he roars straight into a fireball, which nearly one-shots me. Damn Great Jaggi armor (I'm too lazy to build another set atm).

...Oh, yeah. I'll definitely put my online ID up later once I get home. Stuck on Urgent Quest (HR8) now, as I was going to complete it last night some guy went off and died on me (bleh!).

edit: By the way, does anyone know any place where I can get the full skill details for each armor piece? I'd like to plan out what sort of armor I'll mainly use, but the MH wiki doesn't have the info.

I really start to wonder... Are u people just trying to hack around until they drop?! MH is nothing like God of War or any other smash 'em up. You have to learn each foe's patterns, prepare and tread carefully.

The first time you get to fight a wyvern, take your time, even if it makes you lose the mission. Learn its attacks, time them, expect when to evade. And for the love of God, don't give up after the first few tries.

PS: Gigginox is quite easy if you take your time with him. He's very slow, so with a weapon like LS you could land a hit (don't go for 3-4 or full combos) and run; find an opening, repeat. Don't just try to hit every time you get the chance to.

Perfect.

Equip the Auto-Block Charm: it'll take care of most of the sudden spins and charges.

When he first sees you, he'll often charge. In that case, use Counter-Thrust for an easy opening hit. If he starts flying instead, use your Charge to get under him, then use the Upper-Thrust.

He'll often turn to face you directly: Sidestep to his left, turn a little to your right, stay close, and use one Mid-Thrust (to get close) and then one Upper-Thrust to his head/wing, then Sidestep to your left and block. That way, you'll block any counter-attack. Don't get greedy: if you attack three times, you'll usually be vulnerable to a counter. If he starts dancing or panting, though, keep attacking. But ALWAYS end your combo with a Sidestep! (It resets your cooldown, so you can immediately attack/block as needed).

When he flies up, turn and immediately Charge. 99% of the time, you'll avoid his attack if he spits, and you'll be in prime position to attack if he lands. One nice thing about Charge: you're unaffected by wind currents. Just cancel/thrust out before you run past him.

If he's ever coming at you, and you're not set up to Counter-Thrust, use Advancing Guard: it uses less stamina, and it extends your protected area to everything but your very back. You'll probably lose out on the chance to counter, though it's worth it.

Once again, always keep your eyes open for that "clack clack" sound. He might be about to dance, but he's more likely about to light you on fire. Stop what you're doing and start walking in a small circle. Don't bother putting your lance away.

If he summons a Great Jaggi, put your lance away and get the bird between you and the Jaggi. They will fight each other instead of you.

If he summons a Rathia, you can either keep the bird between the two of you and hope Rathia hits the bird for you, or you can be prudent and run. Rathia will butcher you: do not, under any circumstances, try to engage.

Finally, there will be some happy times when you're under it and it's not attacking. Use Upper Thrust as much as you can: not only do you get free hits, but you'll routinely knock it out of the skies and get three more free  shots.

To recap: don't attack more than twice unless you know it's vulnerable, and always Sidestep to its left afterwards (keep the guard button down too!). Aim for the head/chest. Be patient: until you memorize its moves, it's best to play it conservatively. Advance Guard if you lose track of it or are not in a good position to block. And NEVER stay around when it bangs its flints together!

I hear you, and that's what I usually do, but Gigginox freaks me me out, and I want it dead NOW. Ugh. Between the leeching and the egg-farting, it's pretty much my ideal nightmare...

@ sns commenting people

yeah I do find Sns really useful in online, I can put them to sleep allowing us to plant loads of bombs. its in single player I have problems. dib8erman, is kinda think your right. Went against Rathian the other day, my speed and mobillity meant I didn't die at all but it took me 40 mins to do it becuase of the low damage count. However I think the mian problem im having is that I suck at water fights. With R.Ludroth and Gobul i did manage to kill them first time, but i died twice and it took me 48 minutes both times. With Lagi I can't kill him. everytime I try I run out of time and have to capture. I guess I just need to get better at water combat.

If I like sns, what other wepaon classes should I try, ive experimented with the switch axe and i can take down great jaggi and querepeco really quickly but I die against everything else

I strongly recommend a Lance for Lagiacrus. When u see him charging at you, defend. He'll stop right besides you, you can easily nail 2-3 hits, sidestep, defend, repeat (underwater). On land, he's even easier as charging at him does a lot of damage to its body. If you're still having difficulties, bring some traps. Or add me my online name is Routsou, will post Capcom ID later on today, I'll help you with it.

guess i should start forging an epic lance then, its not really my style of play but i may as well give it a shot.  online is fine, we passed the urgent quest first time. That said, raiding with you sometime would be fun, are you in the  PAL server?

I play on import, sorry. I have a EU copy in my hands as well, though. I may start over as a gunner for the EU servers.
