Timed exclusives help a game or not ?

Vesperia Case

In 2008 Tales of Vesperia released exclusivily for Xbox 360 in japan

a bundle was released

TOV was supported from MS as an exclusive then the Tales fans bought xbox 360s  it was the first GAME TO MAKE xbox 360 to become sold-out in japan for the first time making also a good debut of 107k first week TOV after this success it had also good legs 190k at the moment considering 360 HW is a big number

In 2009 Tales of Vesperia was released for the PS3 with a lot of extras

Tales of Vesperia release was combined with the launch of PS3-SLIM it helped as a good launch title also good marketing showingps3 slim new price with Vesperia

and that the return of a classic rpg series to the play station family motivated many to buy it

it sold 225k in just one week and has 350k+ at the moment

So if it was released at the same time on PS3/360 it could have sold first week 180k/35k each for example as it has happened with the only release at the same time PS3/360 RoF

So not only the company made more money with this strategy but also Vesperia helped MS and Sony to sell systems

True story... but only works with good games... games like star ocean 4 (mediocre) f.e in the end only help the frontload sales.

idk. but at least TOV was good for me.. as a PS3 owner

へんたい from japan, sorry.my english is suck,so plain english plz.  thx

Timed exclusive is the only real way for MS to make money in Japan

I'm sure if they knew that ToV would have gone to the PS3 later, it wouldn't have shifted software. The title is misleading, as ToV wasn't announced as a timed exclusive.

You keep pulling shit off like ToV, consumers will lose confidence in a company's claims, and it won't have the same impact.

Frankly, I don't know. It helped their userbase and made a lot of people aware of the xbox. But having the games appear with extras somewhere else might have hurt reputation, and not having FFXIII pretty much settles it to NOT be the console for that genre.

Whether it made them money, who knows. Likely not many of those time-exclusives were for free.

This.  Because of so many timed exclusivity games, people now think it's the case for every game that MS claims is exclusive.  So why would they buy an X360 for a decent game when they know it will eventually come to PS3.

Timed exclusivity is bad anywhere though.

In Japan, no. They obviously aren't looking to buy 360s with high demand. Then you put a game on the 360 *wink*exclusively*wink*wink*, and force them to buy a product they don't want...only for the game to come out on a product they DO want, 6 months later. That just pisses people off. Case in point: that dude that either shattered or burned (I don't remember which) his ToV when the PS3 version was announced

yes fanboys that bought 360 became angry but MS,Sony,Namco made money from this case

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
