Forums - Sales - How the Heavy Rain sales would be if it had been released in Holidays of 09

Heavy Rain has been showing some impressive legs.. I remember it was widely expected (i m not sure were they correct expectations or not) to be 09 holiday title but it got released in Feb 2010. One of the reason given was the Heavy Rain needs time to truly show its color... And atleast from the look of things it look like it has done awesome..

But i was wandering wot do u think if it had been released in Holiday of 09 how the sales would have looked like.? had it been lost in the juggernaut titles like MW2 n Uncharted2 and many others or it would have created the same amount of buzz that it has created now and the sales would have been even higher due to the Holiday rush.?

Secondly will Heavy Rain be showing some good legs in 2010 holidays.? i think Killzone didnt show any legs in the 2010 holidays even after getting a budget release just before the holidays. but i think some title do get Holidays push.. So is it going to be one of those titles or not?

Good question. IMO HR is benefitting from their release date. The same amount of ad time in Nov. would have gone unnoticed and the buzz has really helped. There's a lot less to talk about this time of year. Or most years anyway. At $40 retail it should move another half mil. this holiday even without bundles. Sony could market this to film buffs, the growing anti-shooter crowd or women? Sony's best girl could move HW.

I think it would've slipped under the radar in the holidays.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

i think one more point is that this game is helped by word of mouth also a lot.. but during holidays u dont get to play games a lot as u r gifting n gifts r meant to be opened a bit late.. so simultaneous word of mouth would have been pretty weak as people would have played it at different time.. by the time someone would have played it someone else might be talking abt something else.. so the strong word of mouth it has seen now would have been pretty weak.. But it definitely shows some games need quieter period of year to get the attention

I think that it's definitely benefiting from it's release window.
The only reason there has been a flood of awesome games this last few months was because of the release of MW2 in Novemeber.

I think it would've definitely been overlooked due to the huge games that came out last fall (ACII, MW2, U2, ODST, etc.)

It will probably be a little bit unpolished. Although sales will be better

                                       That's Gordon Freeman in "Real-Life"
