No, I dont agree; Final fantasy VI is the best FF IMO, I do like towns and  good story (And by good a mean good, not just ok). Other important point are the characters, FFXIII just a have a few of them that you could call, good FF characters, Man I miss the all times (Do you know what game did I take that from?), FFIV & FFVI are the best ff because they mastered in story and characters...

5- Agreed. The battle system was good and was pretty innovative. It does feel like the control is a level removed from the player but it was good fun and not having random battles was great.

4- Completely disagree. No towns was one of the worst aspect of FFXIII. The towns create a greater level of immersion in an RPG and allow you to discover different aspects of the world the developers created. They also offer respite from the battles and story and give an extra dimension to the game.

The lack of a world map isn't neccessarily a bad thing as shown in FFX, however, it was too linear in FFXIII. There were virtually no hidden paths and no added extras. Even when it opened out towards the end, there was no variety in the gameplay (just battles and hunts) and was where the lack of towns really hurt it.

3- I kinda agree on this as I believe in a balance between storytelling and freedom, but at the sametime, FFXIII wasn't balanced. In FFXII it was skewed too far in the freedom end, whilst FFXIII did the opposite which lead to the game being solely story and battles. In both cases the game was one of immense potential that wasn't met. The story was told intensely, but the details were brushed over and left to the datalog instead of using the game world. Poor storytelling.

2- A good character, but not my fave FF character.

1- What's this got to do with the game's quality?

My biggest dissappointment of the gen.

I would agree with this, except I liked FFXII a lot.

But FFXIII...it was very disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, FFXII was great. I just saw lots of unfulfilled potential among the greatness. XIII on the other hand was as we've both said, dissappointing.

Five Reasons Why Final Fantasy XIII is the Best in the Series

3.) No Waiting for the Story

Let's talk about Final Fantasy XII. The game starts with a really dramatic cutscene and you get some great story involving Reks and Basch. There's intrigue, there's excitement, and then... Well, then you get put in charge of a kid killing rats. That dramatic storyline you got all excited about? You're not going to get back to that until you run some errands. Say what you will about the game, those first few hours are tedious.

How about some of the games held up as the best of the series? Final Fantasy IV starts with a seemingly normal mission that goes in a completely unexpected derection. Final Fantasy VI starts you in some Magitek armor and then right into a resistance fighting against a dictator.

They start to get duller from there. The beginning of FFVIII starts with you getting to take tests and play card games. Final Fantasy VII starts with a bombing run, sure, but then you've got to talk to Aeris and Tifa for what seems like forever.

Breaking the slow start trend is one of the best things that Final Fantasy XIII does. The game starts fast, and it's full of action from beginning to end. The only slow downs are the cutscenes, which generally last five minutes or less.

I will agree with you on this one. The storyline was well spaced throughout the game. Made it seem that going through the game mattered. I hate the long waits to find out more about the storyline. Other than that, the game sucks and the storyline was ok at best.

Eh, imo none of those reasons qualify lol.

I didn't favor the new battle system, the small world, or the linearity.

5: In my opinion the battle system is the second worst in a FF game with 10-2s combat being the worst. I mean all you do is press X over and over again. I found myself browsing the internet on my laptop while repeatedly pressing x every time a battle started. Battles had no stratagy to them and they were very unrewarding.

4:The bigest thing that made me love the FF series was the world map and the exploration. There was nothing better than finding a cave or hidden temple that contained a powerful weapon or eidolon. Now its follow this line, boss battle, follow line again, another boss battle.

3: When I play an RPG I want to feel like I'm in the game so the option to explore and feel around a bit before I get thrown into the story is very important to me. I rather a slow start to the story that a long linear boring ass story that FF13 had. I platnumed that game and I can't remember much about the story 6 months later. Its very forgetable.

2: Sazh and Snow were the only characters I liked in the game and thats because Sazh had the baby Chocobo in his hair and Snow reminded me of a friend who died at 17.

1: I can't see how multiplat sales made this game any better. IMO FF13 going multiplat ruined the game in a big way because of disk space limitations of the DVD 9. I know many would disagree with that but theres no changing my mind. Thats what I think and thats how I'll always think.

I respect your opinions and everyone has there own likes and dislikes but in my opinion FF13 was only slightly better than FF10-2 and 10-2 was shit. This game is an example of how graphics ain't everything in a game. It looks great but theres nothing else really going on. FF8 for the win.

FF13 was fun but forgetable and forgetable is something no FF game has  in ages.   The bad guys were phoned in and the story was uninspired.  For all of the good points, there are two bad points.  That is not a plus.  I have to disagree with the article.

Agreed, every battle was a scripted experience imo, the battle pace moves faster but you cant select the moves fast enough so you just resort to pressing x for attack or autobattle. the dungeons ended up being a repeat of the same battle 20 times until you got to the end of the line map imo.

Hated all the characters, Sazh was no real exception, just marginally better than the others. they all had camp dialogue, hormonal tendancies, and all were abysmally unrealistic. oh yeah i agree the story was shite, all about lightnings premature menopauses, and erratic hormonal tendancies, nothing to do with the world or the mythology. "its our focus Serah said so".

hate this game so much, i'm hoping the team who made FF13, make FF13-2 so hopefully they cant work on FF15.

The Mainline FF games in order IMO:

VI > IV > IX > V > VII > X > VIII > XII > III > XIII > I > II > XI

I haven't played XIV

So, I disagree

Definitely not the best in the series but definitely one of my top favs in the series.

1) Battle System I loved alot

2) Don't care whether a game has no towns/linear, etc or not.

3) Meh

2) Meh

1) Totally irrelevant. Pretty sure each FF game on the PS systems have been selling a lot more than most games from the same gen so multiplat doesn't make it a better game. Plus it won't even reach the numbers of FF X or FF VII anyway so once again, a stupid point.
