I think I've explained this half a dozen times, but I'll go again.

It's called first impressions. Microsoft made a really bad first impression with the Xbox. They provided a bulky, fairly ugly box without a whole lot of notable exclusive games (there were a lot of smaller, high quality exclusive games, but those didn't get as much attention). Sure, Nintendo screwed up even more last generation, but they also were a notable brand name with decades of history in the console space (as well as having the ultra-successful Game Boy Advance). Microsoft's first chance to prove themselves in the console space was a colossal failure.

The fact that they've managed to recover this much and be so successful shows a lot of respect for the 360 (maybe even more than it deserves). Again, it's a vague question, so you can't really say.

microsoft's resilence in its xbox deserves my respect, if there were no 360 most of us would be ass raped with the 600 price tag sony wanted.

the downfall of this generation gamer, you really honestly think the ps3 wouldn't have come down in price if their was no 360......................*facepalm* dude, major *facepalm*

and the real sad thing is your not alone, there are tons of people who honestly think that.

Wait are you serious......the ONLY incentive a company has to lower their prices is by their competition's response.....MS forced sony to lower their prices no matter which way you are looking at it.

If MS wasnt here we would have all had to choke on a $600 price tag or at best a $500 price tag today.

when the ps2 owned more than 70% of the games market (much larger than the wii) had over 50 milllion unit lead over it's closet competitor................................ Sony still introduced the Ps2 slim and a 100$ price cut............

ok so here we go *takes deep breath*

FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go look at how far into the ps2's lifetime when it did have a price cut and a slim..............did the ps2 have price cuts basically every year like the ps3? no........... Did it get it's slim version when it wasnt even in the market for 3 years? No.....

Fail?......is that slang for "I dont know what I am talking about but I know I am right"?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Well it is getting the respect it deserves, IMO, With all due respect the PS3 deserves more for becoming such a great value, hence the huge turnaround.

In your opinion. In truth, it is not getting half the respect it deserves. Japan still wont budge no matter how good the 360 is or even how far it  sets itself apart from Sony. In Europe, now that the GT5 should win out the year.

same thing happens in america to ps3 on a smaller scale. Americans love American companies.

This is a very retarded post. You really don't know Americans and assume things just because the PS3 isn't winning in America.

Actually, I know it since xbox first came out. At launch, there were news articles like, "Finally, an American video game system".

Maybe I'm generalizing, but I remember the launch, and being an American console was important to the people I knew.

Probably because the first videogame was created in America and the roots are very strong over here. Not only that, but you are reading from a American media piece which whole heartedly I cannot disagree. America has every right if not more to have a videogame system than everyone, including Japan. Trust me...if the PS3 was $400 from the very beginning.....this gen would've been much more competitive. America loves quality at a good price, hence why the 360 was purchased. We are by no means a nationalistic nation and if we find quality in an outsider product we will buy it over an American one. The American government gives us no incentive to buy an American product over an outsider product.

As for the launch of the American launch of the Xbox vs the PS2, the American sales of the PS2 destroyed that of the Xbox. Why might you ask? I cannot speak for all Americans, but where I live the Xbox was the elitist and tech lovers system, much like how the PS3 is recieved over here. They boasted the graphics and the quality and the PS2's failure rate (which was significantly lower than this gens), but all this came at the cost of a low amount of games as opposed to the competitor who came out earlier. The PS2 sold more than three times that of the Xbox in America and sold the most consoles out of any other country or continent world wide. A lot of PC gamers bought the Xbox as a secondary to their PC's. As you can see...the Xbox has switched roles with the PS3 this gen in terms of approach and appeal but the only difference is it has Sony's emblem slapped on it. People need to take notice to the resembling nature.

u guys support GM, ford, chryler even what they made was crap.  and go against many things the south, europe and asia decide,

metric system, hiroshima nature atc, etc.

they are abit nationalistic but that isn't a bad thing really, money flows in the country improving business, and they support their own, though others make better.

microsoft managed to get foot on sony due having multiplatform games are on the 360  and the console being cheaper, not because it was better quality than ps3.

u saw yourself, ps3 still it's more expensive, and it outselling the 360, so it's either at 200$ difference and won't happen again.

So what if some Americans support GM? You do know that GM was about to go under when the economy collapsed, correct? Americans are not nationalistic. If any are they are in an extreme minority. The only thing we are nationalistic about is our love for the nation, but thats about it. America isn't a socialist nation....we don't support each other as easily as Europeans would.

As for the PS3 and the 360's multiplatform game quality, some games look better on the 360 and some look better on the PS3. Just because the PS3 has a higher expected level of quality doesn't mean their technology is better for EVERY game.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 until a certain point. Remember 2008 when Sony was outselling the 360? Once september hit it was over for the PS3. Guess what game is coming out in September....Halo Reach.....and there might be a price cut so beware. Americans love price cuts.

that was a last minute change of mind , oil prices go up and japanese cars had bigger gas milage.

so people won't change unless it hurts u can say.

Hello, I have noticed that the Xbox 360 has some high quality games such as Gears of war 1/2, Halo 3, Fable 3, Forza 2/3, etc.

The Xbox 360 also plays DVDs and has digital distibution for movies and games.

Xbox live is full of amazing content and well worth its price, it has arguably the best online for any home entertainment system.

Why is it that it gets beat by the PS3 in Europe (Excluding UK)? The Price is right, it sells like hotcakes in United States/Canada, why doesnt it sell well in Europe? What more could the public want? Any guesses? It already has racing games and soccer games so idk...

- The PS3 has bluray allowing HD films and larger games

- The 360 is not even close to the media center that the PS3 is, which can play music & videos off a data stick, and stream almost any size movie wirelessly without a problem.

- Free online

- Inbuilt wireless

- More powerful console than the 360 (Please don't argue this one, facts are facts)
    - Therefore exclusives have the ability to look better

- More high profile exclusives which do not make the cross over to PC, unlike many 360 titles, some being superior (Splinter Cell, L4D, ME1 & 2, Gears of War etc)

- Looses less exclusive content than the 360, some being superior/improved for PS3(GTA & Fallout DLC, Tales of Vesperia, Stars Ocean etc)

- 360 has a notorious reliability history

Except for one or two points.....I could literally just switch the word "360" with "ps2" and "PS3" with "Xbox"................you points meant nothing last gen and still mean nothing today judging by the sales.

Oh really?? Then how come even with a year head start the 360 and PS3 are compared as if they were released at the same time? Also the OP wanted to know why the 360 was not being outsold in "others". The above is the answer.

You fail to see the point....the PS3 situation (except graphics because the ps3 and 360 are basically equal....facts are facts after all) is similar to the Xbox1 situation......

It had all those features(except inbuilt wireless and free online but that doesnt matter as it was the only console to do online right last gen ) you were talking about and still got it's ass handed to it by the PS2.

Meaning your post proved nothing.

Fail?......is that slang for "I dont know what I am talking about but I know I am right"?

did the ps2 lauch at $599........... yup it totally did,

that's 1 and 2

that's the point, the ps2 always had a hugh lead over it's competitors, by november 2004 ps2 had over 70 million units sold, and gamecube 15 million and xbox 17 million...... so tell me why in the hell sony drop the price and still release a slim model????....... since price cuts are all about competition............Sony must have felt threatened then to huh? xbox was hot on it's heals right?

a price cut comes with the business plan no matter the cricumstances, the ps3 has had 3 price cuts in 3 years....... but it launched at $599 which is in no way a consumer price point (but you don't know that, it all about teh arrogancez), ps3 had to cut faster to become more consumer friendly, ps2 didn't have this problem because it was always consumer friendly (again you had no freaking clue about any of this)

yup I have no idea what I'm talking about.................. if that's true I wonder what that makes you................. just completely f**king stupid??? your not completely stupid are you??? please tell me your aren't that dumb. I know you have more sense than that................right? yeah you have more sense than to completely ignore key reasons into a obvious company business plan. jesus you scared me for a moment lol.

*looks at the name of the person I'm talking to*........................ oh never mind.

- The PS3 has bluray allowing HD films and larger games -   i watch hd films on my 360... larger games?

- The 360 is not even close to the media center that the PS3 is, which can play music & videos off a data stick, and stream almost any size movie wirelessly without a problem. - I just watched an instant on 1080p movie streamed, no downloading.

- Free online - true... better? nah.

- Inbuilt wireless - perhaps a benefit, but so what?

- More powerful console than the 360 (Please don't argue this one, facts are facts)
    - Therefore exclusives have the ability to look better - opinion,  but in any event looking better does not equal better game

- More high profile exclusives which do not make the cross over to PC, unlike many 360 titles, some being superior (Splinter Cell, L4D, ME1 & 2, Gears of War etc)   and?

- Looses less exclusive content than the 360, some being superior/improved for PS3(GTA & Fallout DLC, Tales of Vesperia, Stars Ocean etc)  talk about reaching

- 360 has a notorious reliability history   history being the operative word.

some of that is opinion, some of it is just plain wrong.

Then please correct me where you feel it is wrong....

there you go...

1. The 360 wireless streaming is awful, not to mention it's format support is far less than the PS3, which can use datasticks no problem

2. The differences are only with visuals, such as the XBL store is much easier, but the downside being it's all over the dash board. Any issues in gaming is to do with the devs and producers of that game, not PSN.

3. It's a benefit to any house which doesn't want ethernet cable all over the place, and any house with multiple stories and again, doesn't want to install ethernet wires. Plus MS will charge you £60 for wireless which is damn steep.

4. No, the PS3 is more powerful than the 360 and therefore the games have the ability to look better, as in higher AA, more advanced lighting. The extra power of the PS3 means games have the potential to be graphically better than 360 games. If you disagree with this you may as well say that Metro 2033 looks just the same as Commander Keen. Yes, graphics don't  make a game better, but it can help with immersion, and hell, people tend to like pretty looking games.

5. Why buy a 360 when my/your/whoevers PC can play many of the titles advertised on the 360, and play them better?

6. Reaching...? Again, it means there is less incentive to buy a 360 when it does not have much exclusive content or games, and that which it claims is exclusive turns out not to be. A dwindling list of exclusives is not going to help a console sell.

7. Nope, the RROD still occurs and the improved figures of the Jasper chip from MS were for the first year of the console life span, not say 3 years. Either way the bad reliability has hurt the 360 image.

In conclusion the above points means that the reasons to buy the 360 are not that large if you are considering it against a PC or PS3 etc, hence why it's sales are decreasing.
