I think I've explained this half a dozen times, but I'll go again.

It's called first impressions. Microsoft made a really bad first impression with the Xbox. They provided a bulky, fairly ugly box without a whole lot of notable exclusive games (there were a lot of smaller, high quality exclusive games, but those didn't get as much attention). Sure, Nintendo screwed up even more last generation, but they also were a notable brand name with decades of history in the console space (as well as having the ultra-successful Game Boy Advance). Microsoft's first chance to prove themselves in the console space was a colossal failure.

The fact that they've managed to recover this much and be so successful shows a lot of respect for the 360 (maybe even more than it deserves). Again, it's a vague question, so you can't really say.

microsoft's resilence in its xbox deserves my respect, if there were no 360 most of us would be ass raped with the 600 price tag sony wanted.

the downfall of this generation gamer, you really honestly think the ps3 wouldn't have come down in price if their was no 360......................*facepalm* dude, major *facepalm*

and the real sad thing is your not alone, there are tons of people who honestly think that.

the price tag for the ps3 would have stay the same for a longer time, i'm not saying it wouldnt come down, fact is anyone who wanted one at time got raped. i mean look, how do you respect a company that tried to play you $600 for a device that they know you really wanted but knows you prabably cant afford it and instead of trying to make it affortable they tell you to get a second job, ken actually said this while smiling, whats sad is you smiled back lol

ok dude I really really really don't want you to take any offence, I don't want to get banned, but you and all the 360 fanboys, wii fanboys, and the industry as a whole are what's wrong with this gen............... a faceplam can't explain how much fail goes into your logic.

the ps3 at lauch costed OVER!!!!! 800 dollars to make!!!! the ps3 actual cost was the $600 they sold it for plus a wii, and you ingorant people get mad at a PR statement, C'mon tell me your smarter than that bro.................they lost over 200 dollars on every console did you know that............no of course you didn't know that, to you they were just super arrogant and just evil and wanted all your moneyz.

The ps3 at launch was a freaking price cut, a $200+ price cut. It was all they could afford so that in the future they can cut cost of PRODUCTION! and lower the consumer price (DUH!!)

do you know how many ps3's they shipped at launch ????????? less than 500k. n freaking launch, yeah they knew EVERYONE was going to get one, fail dude just fail, but again the sad part is your not alone, there's tons of people who think like you...

Sony knew the only people that was going to get a ps3 at launch was the hardcore who really wanted one, they saved the casual for later, why are there so few people who actually got this???

p.s- the irony is I didn't get a ps3 at launch because I couldn't afford it................ go figure

respect is earned, not given. you cannot steal respect.

but, money can do all sort of things. perhaps they bought the respects they have now.

Its a mystery.

Sony bought alot of games with money and you still respect them. Maybe you should just admit that you don't want to respect Microsoft?

On that same token, Sony also makes a lot of games as well. As redudant as this is, let me repeat, every company offers something unique and gets plenty of respect/hate.

No.....Sony buys first party companies and just puts stamps Sony first party on them. The same goes for Microsoft. Microsoft and Sony aren't offering anything unique. They are offering what is expected.

Your outlook on things is usually pretty cloesd off IMO, but this is one takes the cake. They offer nothing unique? OK STAGE.

My outlook isn't closed off at all. My approach is extremely broad. I know what a game company is and what isn't. Show me something that Sony and Microsoft are giving that is unique to the gaming industry save for online and community intergration...which is purely Microsofts dominance and Sony is a format whore company, thats about it. Please show me. Nintendo innovates, makes games and Microsoft and Sony copy this. I know the difference between a company that exists to make games and companies who profit off of booming industries. Sony hires people who love the industry and then they attach a quality control team to it with a Sony stamp. Read the credits of the games.

Your outlook on things is not broad. You speak all the time like what you say is the final word, when it isn't. Although nobody innovates as frequently as Nintendo, I'm not going to sit here and act like Microsoft and Sony offer nothing unique. Your belittling is sickening and tells me your not someone to debate with on the issue of fairness.

Credit where due, it's not that hard to give. Microsoft really introduced console gaming to a robust online world. Sony brings innovative games that really change how we look at games. To ignore all that is to admit that it doesn't mean much to you, not that it doesn't exist.

I'm not going to sit here and needlessly argue over personality traits though, it's inflammatory and off-topic.

You really hit the nail on the head with this one CGI.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Everything the UK does is more American like than the rest of continental Europe so it's no surprise the 360 is selling better there. I think with the rest of Europe, they just prefer the PS3, it's got more types of games that appeal to Euro tastes as well as the larger following the Sony Playstation brand has over Microsoft Xbox. Plus a very big market in Europe is Germany and a country that is renowed for high quality precision engineering will be less forgiving to RROD. PS3 is easily the superior manufactured product. Germany respects Japanese engineering.

If vgc has taught me anything , it is this.....

With the ultra slick , uber line up the ps3 has with MGS4 , U2 and GoW3......how can really respect MS with that kind of line up their competition has?

And also , EVERY 360 game has a much better counterpart on the ps3 (KZ2>Halo 3 , GT5> Forza 3)

if Killzone2 is better why has it only sold just above 2 million & Halo3 has sold nearly 11 million .& why put GT5 as being better than Forza 3 its not even out yet. Fanboy

can you blame a fanboy for getting mad because he see's his favorite console in third place? lol

What's sad about both of you is that he was being quite sarcastic, yet you both took the time to sling insults without even understanding the reality of the post. Good Job.

everything is sad right now not just us, ps3 is in third place which is sad or super sad, xbox wasnt the creator of online gaming which was sad to find out, wii have mostly kiddy games which is hella sad for us grown folks, hahaha honestly i didnt see the sarcastic in his comment, sarcastic fail? lol

Hello, I have noticed that the Xbox 360 has some high quality games such as Gears of war 1/2, Halo 3, Fable 3, Forza 2/3, etc.

The Xbox 360 also plays DVDs and has digital distibution for movies and games.

Xbox live is full of amazing content and well worth its price, it has arguably the best online for any home entertainment system.

Why is it that it gets beat by the PS3 in Europe (Excluding UK)? The Price is right, it sells like hotcakes in United States/Canada, why doesnt it sell well in Europe? What more could the public want? Any guesses? It already has racing games and soccer games so idk...

- The PS3 has bluray allowing HD films and larger games

- The 360 is not even close to the media center that the PS3 is, which can play music & videos off a data stick, and stream almost any size movie wirelessly without a problem.

- Free online

- Inbuilt wireless

- More powerful console than the 360 (Please don't argue this one, facts are facts)
    - Therefore exclusives have the ability to look better

- More high profile exclusives which do not make the cross over to PC, unlike many 360 titles, some being superior (Splinter Cell, L4D, ME1 & 2, Gears of War etc)

- Looses less exclusive content than the 360, some being superior/improved for PS3(GTA & Fallout DLC, Tales of Vesperia, Stars Ocean etc)

- 360 has a notorious reliability history

some of that is opinion, some of it is just plain wrong.

Then please correct me where you feel it is wrong....

360 in Europe is just the cheap product. People see it as the poor mans console because it can be pirated and the hardware is unreliable. Also the whole paying for Online stuff is really bad for the 360 even though its not much people see it as a rip off. In 5 years you pay 200-300 Euro just for life. next thing is no wifi.

Also PC gaming is strong atleast here in germany its pretty strong also in rest of europe. Xbox offers not much if you have a PC almost nothing. PS3 offers a variety of exclusives which are PS3 only. Also Sony is known for their quality and high priced products. the PS3 has the better image Japanese technology is just more valued in Europe then US technology (except Apple).

I could go on for hours but without piracy the 360 would be dead in Europe and I am absolutely sure about that. I dont know a single Xbox360 owner who is not pirating (75% of all Xbox games people have around here are pirated)

And even those guys see the PS3 as the classier product.

The RROD was a real disaster for the image. And also the 360 is the console of choice for people which depend on social benefit (hartz 4).

Well it is getting the respect it deserves, IMO, With all due respect the PS3 deserves more for becoming such a great value, hence the huge turnaround.

In your opinion. In truth, it is not getting half the respect it deserves. Japan still wont budge no matter how good the 360 is or even how far it  sets itself apart from Sony. In Europe, now that the GT5 should win out the year.

same thing happens in america to ps3 on a smaller scale. Americans love American companies.

This is a very retarded post. You really don't know Americans and assume things just because the PS3 isn't winning in America.

Actually, I know it since xbox first came out. At launch, there were news articles like, "Finally, an American video game system".

Maybe I'm generalizing, but I remember the launch, and being an American console was important to the people I knew.

Probably because the first videogame was created in America and the roots are very strong over here. Not only that, but you are reading from a American media piece which whole heartedly I cannot disagree. America has every right if not more to have a videogame system than everyone, including Japan. Trust me...if the PS3 was $400 from the very beginning.....this gen would've been much more competitive. America loves quality at a good price, hence why the 360 was purchased. We are by no means a nationalistic nation and if we find quality in an outsider product we will buy it over an American one. The American government gives us no incentive to buy an American product over an outsider product.

As for the launch of the American launch of the Xbox vs the PS2, the American sales of the PS2 destroyed that of the Xbox. Why might you ask? I cannot speak for all Americans, but where I live the Xbox was the elitist and tech lovers system, much like how the PS3 is recieved over here. They boasted the graphics and the quality and the PS2's failure rate (which was significantly lower than this gens), but all this came at the cost of a low amount of games as opposed to the competitor who came out earlier. The PS2 sold more than three times that of the Xbox in America and sold the most consoles out of any other country or continent world wide. A lot of PC gamers bought the Xbox as a secondary to their PC's. As you can see...the Xbox has switched roles with the PS3 this gen in terms of approach and appeal but the only difference is it has Sony's emblem slapped on it. People need to take notice to the resembling nature.

u guys support GM, ford, chryler even what they made was crap.  and go against many things the south, europe and asia decide,

metric system, hiroshima nature atc, etc.

they are abit nationalistic but that isn't a bad thing really, money flows in the country improving business, and they support their own, though others make better.

microsoft managed to get foot on sony due having multiplatform games are on the 360  and the console being cheaper, not because it was better quality than ps3.

u saw yourself, ps3 still it's more expensive, and it outselling the 360, so it's either at 200$ difference and won't happen again.

So what if some Americans support GM? You do know that GM was about to go under when the economy collapsed, correct? Americans are not nationalistic. If any are they are in an extreme minority. The only thing we are nationalistic about is our love for the nation, but thats about it. America isn't a socialist nation....we don't support each other as easily as Europeans would.

As for the PS3 and the 360's multiplatform game quality, some games look better on the 360 and some look better on the PS3. Just because the PS3 has a higher expected level of quality doesn't mean their technology is better for EVERY game.

The PS3 is outselling the 360 until a certain point. Remember 2008 when Sony was outselling the 360? Once september hit it was over for the PS3. Guess what game is coming out in September....Halo Reach.....and there might be a price cut so beware. Americans love price cuts.

IMO it gets way too much for being the most unreliable console, maybe even electronic device, ever in history. It should've not even be allowed to produce and sell a device with so many flaws like the 360. And they even get away with it...

More games, online community, subjective taste, better price points, etc. These are the reason Microsoft "got away" with so much. Why might you ask? because they gave the gamers what they wanted when Sony wouldn't.

Each console has their strong points for respect:

Xbox 360 has its respect as it invented console online gaming, which PSN is still playing catch up. A lot of people won't jump ship to PS3 simply because their friends are all on Live.

Wii of course revolution the way people play games and attract a large crowds of non-gamers into buying gaming consoles, Sony and M$ used to laugh at motion gaming and now they keep their mouth shut and jump in the waggle battle.

PS3 on the other hand is the most value for money console, it comes with the most advance features (Blue-ray and Cell) and has games with best graphics hands down.

So all hail the 3!!!

Xbox 360 did in no way invent console online gaming. Neither did the Xbox. They might've done it best, but they were in no way first.

The Dreamcast was the first system to implement online somewhat properly (even though it was late) all thanks to Microsoft. Microsoft took it from there when they made their first system.

Hardly.

So who do you think revolutionized gaming?
