Forums - Nintendo - So, megaflop GTA: CW for DS reached 1M

Now if there is a question about the low opening numbers, that's simple. No hype.

That isn't an excuse, unless you can point me to a game that sold huge without loads of marketing. Even New Super Mario Bros Wii had ads to let people know the game was coming out. No game, I repeat, no game opens huge just because of a brand name and userbase. Even the first GTA games had hype from both marketing and controversy.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I never knew there was so many definitions of a flop. Learn something new everyday.

Congrats for the game hitting the 1m milestone. Would probably be at 2m if it weren't for the R4 lol.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

"terrible for a GTA game and considering the userbase, not that incredible"

Did you look at the sales for the GTA games before III? They were terrible as well considering the userbase for the PS1.

GTA 1 sold 2.3 Million

GTA 2 sold 3.4 Million

Both sold more, on less userbase. So what's the excuse now?

If those top 2D GTA's have been released after some good 3D installments, I assure you with my vast knowledge, that those game would've been flop has hard as the PSP version of Chinatown Wars.

For god sake, I created this thread a few hours ago and it already has so many comments. Guys you really reacted quickly when you saw the post of GTA:CW (DS) reaching 1M....but I can't understand fanboys positions/opinions. Why people do not accept that the game sold pretty well? The game is still selling. This is not only to congrat GTA:CW....it's also to stop comments saying mature titles do not sell on Nintendo systems.

First was that 3rd party titles didn't sell well.....then, after some 3rd party games sold well.......hardcore games and mature games do not sell well.....
OH! Come on! Come on! What's up people with all that hate towards Nintendo? Without them PS3 or XBOX 360 would have never existed!

PD: Currently status:
1. Quality hardcore 3rd party titles sell on Nintendo systems (Monster Hunter Tri)
2. Quality mature 3rd party titles sell on Nintendo systems (GTA:CW)

END OF THE STORY

1 mil is still good but what CW proved is that most people don't want a top down/2D GTA. This isn't about the userbase, or the DS's demographics, or anything similar. Most people just don't like this type of GTA. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid, sorry.

I am not stupid then

Not that bad i guess...

The SONY fanboys that think the size of the userbase is some kind of good argument to say the sales are bad, should look to PS2, because if the userbase size matter to a game be or be not a flop,
the PS2 would be the biggest failure of videogame history.

1 Million is a good mark!!! and it is still selling week by week

If you llok at the PSP version you'll see that this game sold much less than other GTA on the PSP. You have to remember that the PSP version was bundled, DS version not.. and the numbers give the reason to DS version, so maybe is not the console, maybe people prefer GTA with no aerial perspective.

I like it a lot, but i talk for myself

Selling 1M is an accomplishment.

Now it is probably not worth Rock Star's effort to make a sequel. But a game that sells a million should not be considered a flop.

However, it seems for a lot of people that no matter how much a game sells on a Nintendo platform that it should sell more.

Maybe they're spoilt by the fact that the DS is such a good system that can push games beyong 15M and even 20M like no one else:P

So one million may seem too low infact :P
