there is really no way to penetrate that fanboyism blindness

"Price Difference"
Lower price = good for consumer
higher price = Bad for consumer
your arguement already showed the difference.
"Proprietary bs??"
Mini Disc, Memory stick(if I remember correctly right now are 3 different version of it), forcing blue Ray in PS3???? there are more example but I cant think of it right now.
"Wait till Future price drop"
what kind stupid arguement is this???? we arguing the current situation, its still more expansive than its competitor. can we consumer take the units now and pay $100 to them and tell them this is what it'll cost next year, we are only here to do you a favor and help you reduce storage cost and gaining market share.

Doesn't change the fact that by next year, prices between the two will be the same, and that's when most people will start adopting HDM. Not now, next year.

Also, Blu-Ray is not a Sony proprietary format. Minidisc, etc. are, but they have nothing to do with this. Just because proprietary formats are gemerally more expenisve, doesn't mean Blu-Ray will be, because, like I said, it's not proprietary.

Um, Bluray is proprietary...as you have to pay royalties in order to produce Bluray hardware AND software...

I meant propreitary in the sense that it is owned and controlled by one company. Blu-Ray is controlled by the BDA, and multiple companies own patents on Blu-Ray technology and recieve royalties from every player and disc sold. The same goes for HD DVD.

Which is the definition of proprietary, it doesn't matter if it is 1 or 10 companies. And Walmart is NOT neutral...http://news.digitaltrends.com/talkback184.html

You're a real funny guy.

First, that article is from April 23, 2007.  Second, it links to this article concerning a rumor of over 2 mil. cheap Chinese players from the Chinese manufacturer Fuh Yuan that would hit stores over the holidays.

Both Wal-mart and Fuh Yuan denied the article at the time, and, if you notice, the cheap players hiting shelves are not made by Fuh Yuan, and there aren't any where close to 2 million of them.

And, if Wal-mart was HD DVD exclusive, please explain this:

Explain this:

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=753&d=1195485088

I don't know why it won't show up for you as an image. It's working fine for me.

Also, you ignored the rest of my post.

And your new link? It's mostly speculation. So far, they are stocking the same amount of movies for both formats, at similar prices to other stores like Best Buy. Not to mention, they still sell standalone Blu-Ray players in-store and on their website.

If that's what you consider to be HD DVD exclusive...

It's a picture of Wal-mart's website showing the sale this weekend. They're sellin the 80gb ps3 with an extra 10 free BR movies. They will be receiving extra stock of BR movies at each store for the sale. Go here:

Second post from the bottom.

Like I said, Wal-mart isn't anywhere close to being HD exclusive.

I'm quite happy with the way this has turned out. The market is obviously large enough for two players - and consumers are benefiting at the moment big time.

Anyone arguing that HD-DVD should die because it only has 35% of the market share - should try applying that reasoning to Sony/PS3. Should they just shut shop, because they only have 17% of market share?

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

I want HD to stick around. Just so that Fox and Disney don't come out as clear winners.

I'm voting for HD DVD to win here. But it seems it will be a stalemate, but Stand Alone player sales are in HD DVDs favor so maybe that trend will continue.

PC Gamer

I want HD DVD for the simple reason that there is no region coding and no ridiculous BD+ DRM.
