Forums - Sony - They said 60 hours, I beat it in 35-the biggest problem of Final Fantasy 13

60h? They said it's a 40-50h game.

Eh, I was expecting FF13 to go on longer. 35 hours later, I'm done. I realize that the other 25 hours or so is spent on sidequests and whatnot, but without any aside from killing monsters (no card game, gold saucer, blitzball *ugh*, etc.), I don't think I can spend all that time just fighting over and over. I mean the battle system is cool, but I don't think it can tide me over for another two dozen hours.

I truly was expecting the story to last 60 hours. Secrets/collectibles seem rather irrelevant in the game because the items are simply random names, there are no towns and no world map to explore, and filling up the crystarium/upgrading weapons don't seem to have any point behind it because there just isn't anything else to do beyond fighting.

I dunno.. I was having a great time with the game up until beating it. Now I realize that beyond the story line, there's just not much to do. I'm used to Final Fantasies having a heck of a lot of variety in sidequests with a bunch of different things to collect. In Final Fantasy 7, I spent 80 hours in the game even though I can beat the thing in under 30 hours, because there are chocobos to breed, awesome materia to collect, gold saucer activities, secret areas, etc. All the other Final Fantasies I played had something different to do at end game. It's disappointing that there's pretty much nothing to do now in FF13 except fight.

edit: another thing about the cieth stone missions. I just felt no reason to do them because it's just a random stone telling me to kill some random monster to get some random treasure. It doesn't feel epic at all, unlike fighting something like omega weapon.

Also, the weapons all seem so insignificant coz you just get them out of random chests in random areas, and they just have random properties and random upgrades from random components.. none of them feel epic, like say, getting squall's ultimate lionheart weapon.

So I just don't feel like collecting anything in the game. Everything about the sidequests, aside from being repetitive (the fighting only thing), they also feel really really random. "Fight random monster and get random treasure for random stone dude".

This ENTIRE post makes me boil in complete anger!

If ANY of this stuff bothers you, you shouldn't even touch an RPG!

since when were you so elitist?

so only a "select" kind of people can touch rpgs now? you're not only being elitist, you're also being racist.

maybe you ought to step back a bit about your defense of rpgs. i'm a gamer too. i have just as much right to criticize as you do.

How am I possibly being racist?

The thing is in RPGs you usually don't rush through and then say you're done. In FF7, you don't just go "Well, Spehiroth is dead, I played 25 hours, now let's never play this game again."

Yes, you're allowed to play whatever game you want, but if your idea of beating a game is simply going through the main storyline without diversions at all, you really shouldn't be playing RPGs all that much.

huh? obviously you didn't read the post at all.

that's the very reason i'm complaining! there's nothing to do aside from fight! the main quest is all about battle, and the side quests are all about battle too!

read it again! i expected to do a lot of sidequests, but there's nothing except random kill that monster missions!

jeez.

FF VII for me was about 25 hours..

so this is an improvement already

I blame MS and dvd's for this.

really? damn! you realize you just further increased my urge to buy RoF or DAO:A rather than start seriously playing FFXIII and i've had the game for more than a week now.

i played FF7 to death with the chocobo races/ chocobo breading/ aquiring all the materias including master materias, getting all the ultimate weapons and beating ruby weapon and emerald weapon and ultima weapon

i also played ff8 to death witht the card game, getting the ultimate weapons, gfs and collecting magic

ff9 not so much as i couldnt find all of the hidden tablets thingy like treasure hunt :P

i played 10 to death just playing blitzball :) though not having a world map like 7,8,9 kinda hurt it imo.

This is by far the worst thing about the game... for a game that took +5 years of dev time, hell even 3 if some want to call it that, the time span is pathetic.

I forget who said it exactly, but my gamestop dudes said it correctly, compared to other JRPG's this gen and other FF's, FFXIII is an and i freaking quote... "ON RAILS GAME" the gameplay is trash because its to simple for this gen and there weren't enough mini games.

It's a good final fantasy game, i myself put it above the almighty FFVI along with FFI, FFVIII, FFIX and even FFXII... but VII, X, and II are far better FF's imo. for there time they were the best.

But don't worry... Square may not let us down this gen in the grand scale of things... with that said... Need a lift buddy? http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=104556&page=2

I haven't bought this and I really don't plan on it. From reading reviews and comments, I have gotten the impression that they took what made Final Fantasy games what they are and either did away with them or just greatly simplified them. Personally, I'm waiting for Versus. Call me old fashioned, but I like a worldmap in my FF's.

You must have either:

1. Really short memory

2. Or just very guillable.

Companies always lie about how long it takes to beat their games. I beat Rogue Galaxy is 30 hours despite being advertised on the box that it was 100 hours long. Same with every other Final Fantasy. FFXII was the only one that took me longer than 40 to beat.
