At the rate the Nintendo DS is selling it will probably remain one of the top 3 or 4 platforms on the market until 2013 or 2014; which means that if the DS-XL is a product the market desires it will sell well regardless of the existence of a 3DS.

Yes - They are showing to the public that there's a new big thing coming and that makes Natal and PS Move look like old news.

No - they just killed some DS sales.

I'm still getting an XL.

It might make holiday 2010 ... but it probably won't be readily available with a steady stream of games until mid-2011

I agree, probably a few more days wouldn't hurt. I was buying DSi XL, but now I'm not so sure. On the other hand, I think it's better for the consumer. Imagine buying the DSi XL and the next day to know that a new DS is coming. That would be terrible for a lot of people.

If history repeats itself.  Japan will get it later this year where as NA will get it in 2011. 

The DS and Wii both launched in North American earlier than they launched in Japan

Its just like going from ds to ds lite, the main difference was the weight. Going from ds to dsi, there was a bigger difference because of the cameras and dsi ware. DSI XL is basically the same as Dsi just with bigger screens. This new 3DS is going to be different from dsi by being 3d and having better technology incorporated into it.
