Wii owners are waiting for price drops, Zelda for example.

SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, etc..??? You seem to have forgotten some of the other extremely highly anticipated titles. More than that you spend a large amount of time focusing on first year software sales of the Wii in comparison to second year software sales of the 360. People love to make this comparison because it is about the only way to put the Wii in a bad light right now. If this comparison holds up as the Wii moves into the middle of its second year then you have a valid comparison, but right now it is just stretching for it. |
SSBB < Mario
Mario Kart Wii < Zelda
Wii Fit = WTF no-oneknows.
My point isnt how nintendo sucks, and the games are bad. Find one place in that thread I said nintendo sucks. I am just saying, people are buying consoles, and no games. I have been saying that for the last year. It's still the same way. It's just grandma, buys the Wii becuase everyone says it's so much fun. And then she never buys a game.

A lot of people. There was an entire thread about it. Or perhaps it was SSBB. |
It still may outsell Halo 3 but it was unrealistic to expect it to pass Halo 3's week 1 numbers ...
Over the next 5 years Super Mario Galaxy will continue to sell thousands of copies every week so it is possible that it will (eventually) pass Halo 3 worldwide
| HappySqurriel said: With 45 Million PS2s sold the PS2 only sold 984,598 pieces of software The fact of the matter is that most gamers are not obesessive enough to buy more than a couple games a year; if they own a system long enough (say 5 years) they will end up with a library of 20 or so games. Systems which have reached a mainstream market rarely have a (particularly) strong attach rate ... |
There it is. Nobody would call any of those three systems a failure. Thread is over. Go home to your families, they miss you all.

Funny how you're always wrong Kwaad
What's up Kwaad? Nice to see you posting again.
I like your thread title. Makes is sound like Nintendo is losing money.
Anyways, I don't think EVERYONE was waiting for just SMG. There are still people waiting for SSBB or for Mario Cart. Some aren't waiting waiting at all and just buying games as they come along. Like me.

When Soriku is 18 "SMG OUT SELLS HALO3".

I just own a Wii, and I too am worried about the low attach rate for "real" games. Yes, the arguments for including the two games (outside Japan) are valid, but it looks to me like there are two audiences with me: "super-casual", which never buy any games after Sports, Play and one bad movie tie-in, and me, who buys all the first-party games. It's like Gamecube, but disguised. In this respect, Microsoft stands to make a lot of money in the future from massive third-party game sales, while Nintendo will calm to near-Gamecube profits after the hardware, uh, "fad", is over.
|
I wasnt doom-saying it like that.. but overall that is my point. There truely arent many games being bought for it. That's what amazes me. There just arent many 'real' games being sold.

It's true that wii owners are more likely to be casual gamers who'll buy fewer games, and with the hardware shortages, they may even be limiting the number of more hardcore gamers purchasing wii's, but if nintendo's able to continue to expand production, and demand for hardware keeps up, that's a pretty small problem to deal with.
Yeah, Halo 3 sold almost 3 million units of software during it's first week. The next week it was dow to 600 thousand and on the third it was somewhere around 300k. Up till this point, Halo 3 has sold 6 million units worldwide, out of which USA has more than 4 million units, the rest divided by Europe and Japan. Point is? The game was practically bought by everyone that would be interested in it. During the first 4 weeks. Sales now are on the 50k level and dropping. Meanwhile you're woeing that a game that sells enourmous amounts during its lifetime, didn't do so on its first day? Get a grip! I for one am very eager to see SMG sales by the end of the year, when it will probably be on the very same sales level as Halo3. Or maybe a million units sold less. Big deal. The game is still a success by anyones standards. But then again i don't have the whole "ZOMG this game has to sell billions of units!!!!!!" approach.
