you put shortage in quotes like its a fallacy.

as ioi stated above. This is the first week where his data has shown shortages. I posted before him, hence the quotes.

Yea, the PS3 has been hard to find, but not like the Wii was in the first two years of it's existance where you could make a hefty profit off of e-baying a new unit. Right now you lose money once you pay tax for the new unit, and then pay shipping to sell it. Also up until this week, if I wanted a PS3 I could buy a new one no problem with a tiny bit of searching. I just tried searching now, and my area is now dried up.

Why do you bring the wii into this? Nobody is comparing it to the wii, you are the one trying to show that you think the shortage statement isn't true with your quotations.

Can we not compare things in this world anymore? I'm sorry your feelings are hurt because I brought up the Wii. This is the NA sales thread, I can talk about the Wii if I want.

My point was clearly that PS3 shortages aren't nearly as bad as the Wii shortages were and that until this week (which ioi confirmed) hasn't really hurt overall sales. I used e-bay as a point that the PS3 shortages weren't as bad. I never said PS3's weren't hard to find which constitutes a "shortage" as supply is limited. However, if you wanted a PS3 you could find a PS3. The same wasn't true a few years ago for Wii.

just a little thing :

I m not sure ioi confirmed that, before this week, shortage were not impacting the ps3 sales

he just said something like "this is the first week we really see shortage" that can be interpreted in many ways

what is sure : shortage were not that big before.

Tell that to every online retailer and every gamestop.

can we drop the idea that sony is holding supply back to reduce losses... thats just ludicrous.

But questioning week after week that there is a shortage is not.

whoaaa

Hang on... I have agreed there must be shortages... but I also called out that ridiculous statment by jack tretton that said there wont be shortages for major game releases.... its just illogical and actually wrong by the look of this week.

and I repeat, the sony holding stock back thing is rubbish.  just to counter your deflection.

I still don't understand why there is a shortage.

the problem with ps3 shortages is people wont wait ages for a ps3 because they can get a 360

But you can't get God of War III on the X360.

Which is the only reason the PS3 would have a boost this week, because people want to play God of War III. Once again you guys are all over reacting, just because the PS3 doesn't have a huge boost this week because of shortages doesn't mean the people that were planning on buying the PS3 is not going to buy it anymore. There interest in GoW will still be there. Eventually over time there going to buy a PS3 to play GoW.

looking bad for ps3 in usa, even with shortage... this is the month with gow3 and ff13... a big month for sony this year... move sony! 360 price drop and natal arrive and maybe xbox slim!

Excellent GoWIII numbers!
But WTH @ Sony!!!??? Two huge games has been released within 2 weeks and there are no PS3's! Imagine if Gran Turismo had been released this month as well. Total disaster!
Someone needs to get pew-pew-pewed...

I think MH3 will boost Wii HW up aswell, I don't think everyone who wants one has a wii yet. It's the first MH game on a Nintendo console.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

@ PS3: Sony probably screwed up supply of the 45nm RSX models due to production problems. This is a bad bad move, they took a risk wanting to lose less money and created shortages as a result. Microsoft/Nintendo would have ensured good supply of the new model before they took the old model out of production and this isn't the first time this has happened either.

@ Xbox 360: Why is it up YOY?! I simply don't know. There doesn't seem to be an explanation I can really call upon for this. Maybe its hype for Reach? Maybe its the ESPN/Netflix on demand services really paying off?

Here's one possibility:

More people were looking for PS3's in the last couple weeks because of FFXIII and then God of War. Many of them probably found them, but what about the people who were going to buy PS3's for other reasons? With less PS3's to go around, I would expect plenty of them just decided to opt for the closest substitute instead.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

That doesn't really account for the whole trend of the Xbox 360 being very strong YOY and not coming off a price cut for the whole year. It could account for some, but not all of the difference.

I know a bunch of people that still want to buy a PS3 for God of War 3, Metal Gear 4. So it will not hurt PS3 sales
