Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo 3DS Announced! (3D!!)

@ Happy...

But it's probably just a depth 3D...not an actual popping out at you type of 3D...that's much less intriguing to me and probably many that think of 3D...

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

If this thing ships with two cameras, it might be possible to do 3d tracking. So in theory, they might be able to make a 3d display with 3d input which opens up a huge amount of possibilities in gameplay.

This is what you call innovation, not just pushing more pixels to the screen but a real change in the way games could be played.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

They better give a migration route for my DSiWare games.  I wonder if this is why they saved the Virtual Console Express?

Hopefully it's true and autostereoscopic 3d.
If it is I'm buying one.

I wonder how they will implement this:

No glasses is awesome, but I do hope they figure out a way to play this in any amount of ambient light. Wonder why theaters are dark? If this works properly and is truly playable anywhere, Im definitely onboard.

Apparently the DSi can already do the illusion of depth 3D thing.

Why would Nintendo launch a new handheld to do something the DSi can already do?

I have to say I'm surprised they are pushing this new console within the next year as the DS just had it's best holiday ever in the US (US right? it was somewhere it had its best holiday, but whatever). They must be trying the GBA/DS thing again where they "co-existed" but that didn't really work out.

The DS will still break 140m before the 3DS comes out though.

You actually believed that the GB and DS was going to co-exist? No it was only to make sure that they had a backup plan so that if the DS failed they would just release a new GB that they had prepared. That’s why they said what they said.

3D is the future, huh. With Sony leading the way, and Nintendo joining the party, I am as excited as ever to see what they going to do with this technology.

I'm not. IMO 3D is a step back.

No, I didn't think that. Nintendo were the ones who said they were going for the "3 pillar approach" and they wanted the GBA/DS to coexist. The GBA was supposed to be the competitor to the PSP, while the DS was supposed to be an experiment that they didn't know if it would succeed or not.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Hardware advancements, improving the technology...Some argue that the gamecube could have done what the Wii does with an attachment....so it's really not all that far off to think of.
